Bank that cares !!

Time has changed and human life has become fast especially at big cities. One has no time even to eat, sleep or think. Atleast here on MS I find many are RRCing...its nice that MSians (my dear friends) have time and they fulfill their wish to enjoy it. I read many reviews on Banks and felt verrry bad that very few are satisfied with very few banks. As a Bank employee (VRS 2000) I decided to write on this topic.

Friends, BOI was known as Parsi's Bank before Nationalisation i.e. 1969. I joined this Bank in the yr. 1977 and my job was of steno-typist...you must be thinking its cool...yes, it's cool not to be at counter service where each and every customer expects fast service. Still I (alongwith my colleague steno-typists/clerks) used to be always alert to complete my work in time.

We had monthly meetings of all Regional Managers in the Zone where progress/problems were reviewed and discussed for solutions and future guidance of each other. My office was quite decent and discipline was observed upto the mark. Then I have worked at some branches at counters even and worked for four/five types of work on same table..which was quite difficult to manage. I hope you can understand the situation where employee does same type of work is rather easy than doing many types of work at a time. However, being at small branch we used to do it...not only me but other employees at small branches even.

Further you must be knowing that our network is spread all over country...i.e.at metropolitan cities, towns, district places, rural areas etc. At Rural branches you will see One Man show...many times Manager is doing duties of cashier and even sepoy and is denied leave due to shortage of replacement during his leave period.

One of our friend on MS has found the reason for poor service as lack of adequate and trained staff, lack of technology, attitude of the staff and work strain. I agree partially as its of technology which is used at full extents at Private Commercial Banks like ICICI, IDBI, HDFC etc.and BOI needs more perfection and work strain is many times seen at all bank branches esp.during first 10 days of months and during festival time, after holidays. There is telebanking in BOI to respond queries reg.balance etc....Valued customers are always welcome and every customer is valued for BOI...please please keep in mind. Further, due to VRS number of employees is decreased and business performance is same (or more) and as computerisation is introduced customer hrs.are increased to serve ppl.for more time... Barring ATM service (which is area where BOI definitely needs improvement) BOI has done for general public many many things as per Reserve Bank of India instructions. BOI serves public through many Deposit schemes like Double Benefit Deposit, Monthly Income Certificate, Recurring Deposit, FCNR deposits, NRO, NRE deposit, Star Suvidha (check whether its presently available), Loan schemes like educational loans, consumer loans, housing loans, purchase of shares, Industrial finance, Bank guarantees, L/Cs, export finance. BOI has large clientele. Bank is working very very hard on Recovery front now a days which is main area (i.e. Bad Debts) weakening Banking Industries' backbone. I remember we had requested/collected signatures of general public for letter to PM of India for publishing list of defaulting customers in prominent newspapers not paying loans.

Keep in mind that there are Rules and Regulations followed invariably. So, don't ever think about few exceptions which malign image of BOI...It hampers good employees' morale. Be supportive for them and you will experience good results definitely. There is Public Relations Officer at every Administrative office to process customer grievances. Take PROs help if you are sufferer.

Bank of India's motto is ''Bank that Cares''. And you have nice future with BOI Star !!
