Having been "forced" to open a public bank account due to the odd requirements that most govt. documents require today I tried several of them, including SBI, PNB and Syndicate Bank.
Having been used to private banks where they eagerly solicit business, I have never seen a more disinterested team than these three banks in Saket. Syndicate even refused to give an account opening form, instead giving me a post card which I had to fill out and send to them to REQUEST for a form!
BOB was however the pick of the lot, after filling out the form which like all public banks requires an introduction from an existing member (Stuck in the stone ages!) was a breeze. While there was still the sarkari look and feel, everything was smooth. The entire process took 15 mins including depositing cash and receiving my account number. The only hiccup was the pass-book could not be printed as their printer was down but they were quite apologetic and requested I come back the next day.
I have not had the opportunity to try out the internet banking, but phone banking and ATM service is as expected, not great but getting the job done.
Of course when compared to private banks there could be a tendency to knock it, but I was satisfied with the Saket branch and the service.
