All details intact but the passport is damaged because it suffered a rain shock(26/7 in Mumbai) and so started my journey to the Worli passport office.
I checked on the web and filled an online form and was assuming that I had things in place including an affidavits in the format that the web page had asked. The appointment was at 10 am, I reached in time and was of the opinion that I would be seeing the passport verification person at 10am . no sir, please stand in the queue.
There is a long queue - everyone registered online with an appointment time of 10am! I reach the counter at 1230. The website mentions one address proof and I carry just that but the lady says where is your other address proof - I am zapped . . I protest saying that the website mentions only one address proof - she says two is required - then she says that the affidavit is not in the required format . I say . I copied the information from web and I got the affidavit done . she is not impressed . I am zapped . then she says that the photograph is too big! I am not sure what to do . no mention of what should be the size of the face in the photograph!
Luckily for me . I had another set of photographs which came in handy - the second proof came in the form of a quick visit to a private national bank and a printout of the statement! The affidavit - luckily a colleague of the lady suggested that the affidavit might be acceptable . so I submit my application the same day! But the lady(who is apparently unhappy) says that she will remark that the affidavit is not in the required format . she does write a remark . which results in my getting a letter from the passport office asking me to visit the passport office(again after a month of application submission) with a fresh affidavit!
The moral - two visit to the passport office is a must - and never believe what is said in the web page(official) - probably the guys who maintain the website never keep it updated or are not in sync with the people verifying the application! I suppose there is still time for us to get e-governance
