Welcome back the Yash Raj banner. A refreshing film to woo the hearts of all cinema lovers with a pair to watch out for! Sorry had delay in writing the review for this; as was too occupied watching it time and again with a bucket of popcorns and traversing streets of Janakpuri.
Storyline is simple with Shruti Kakkad ( Anushka Sharma), the no nonsense, ambitious girl imbibed with middle class values with dreams in her eyes, meets Bittoo Sharma( Ranveer Singh) , the nonchalant and directionless yet enterprising lad. North meets South and as long as they walk parallel all goes well however when they meet to mate, trouble in paradise happens.
The depiction of their journey from start as intern wedding planners to venture from small to high budget weddings gives insight of behind the scenes of wedding. It is true, as a matter of fact that amongst few business, ”Beeness”, that never dies is a wedding business and it is a worldwide phenomenon. And Delhi is known for its flamboyant lavish wedding ceremonies .Maneesh Sharma‘s adaptation to catch the vibrant atmosphere and ambience of Delhi Culture and weddings pays all of us with this delightful romantic comedy.
This film also in a way shows that the audience has now accepted that we do not need to show two flowers and two birds to draw simile of a kiss, it is natural and not a taboo. The second half comes with no shocking surprise however a behavioral aspect of an emotional person who went with rule books however stumbled over when human nature and attachment surfaced. The characters are not flat, while Shruti as the determined girl takes a foolish step to befriend and break the partnership detrimental to her business. Bittoo on the other hand, enterprising yet not too communicative to catch the emotion also accepts the challenge to make it on his own. The first point of realization is when he is not able to fix another name for his new company and openly accepts the suggestion of the wall painter. If we see it in fragments, film has some more to offer. Often ignored, most of the time emotional imbalance makes us take decisions not fruitier as ego plays the destroyer. Here too it was no different. They as a team use to compliment and make up for their flaws apart dug their own graves.
The soundtrack of the movie is chirpy, with the title track as my personal favorite, ”Tarkeebain”. “ Ainvayi Ainvayi” gives you a flavor of Delhi Cosmo culture with tadka of Punjab , as in Delhi, the business community and parts of city are Punjabi dominant hence you get the essence of Punjabi culture in Delhi’s air. Aseem Mishra has done his part in cinematography section and editing by Namrata Rao was subtle and in sync. Ranveer Singh is truly a find as he comes out natural and has the flare that we saw in SRK when he entered the industry. Anushka is perfect with her emotions and charm, truly underrated however is industries genuine find.
Hence if you want to have fun, get the spice of Delhi, the biryani of weddings and wander the streets of Janakpuri you’ve missed then go for it. After long a comedy without slapstick intrusion!
