Balika vadhu- kachchi umar ke pakke rishtey. Review on Balika Vadhu

This is the name of the Serial which is being shown on Colours channel nowadays at 8 pm – Monday to Friday.

I don’t know how to start writing about this serial. Everything is just perfect about it. It’s a breath of fresh air different from the usual stories. Perfect story line, perfect acting, perfect sets, perfect camera effects. I really have no words to congratulate the team of Balika Vadhu.

The story is about a young girl Anandi who gets married with Jagdisiya who belongs to a very rich family where the environment is completely different from her house. Both Anandi and Jagdisiya do not even understand the meaning of marriage and they are tied with the relation of friendship. That’s why the name of the serial is apt.  The story progresses and the girl slowly and steadily starts adjusting to the new environment. She has so many questions and queries due to her young age. She is very innocent and does not understand the responsibilities of being married. However she adjusts to the new surroundings. There is a scene where she is making something in the kitchen and she gets tempted to eat it while making. The fact that has been shown here is that she is a kid and the temptations of a kid are irresistible.

This serial has another speciality that this serial does not stick to one topic. There are several stories running side by side. It talks about many aspects dealing with woman of every age.

There is another young girl called Gehna who gets married to the Taya Sa of Anandi. She becomes her Tai Sa. She is just some years elder to Anandi. The Taya Sa of Anandi is almost 45 years of age who loses his wife 20 years back and then marries this girl. He doesn’t care about the emotions of the young girl. The fear and the agony has been quite nicely potrayed by the girl who has acted as Gehna.

Then there is another girl called Phooli who is friend of Anandi and who is a Child Widow. It has been shown that a girl who does not even understand the meaning of marriage becomes a child widow. She wants to dress up like other girls. Anandi gets a ribbon for her. She ties it, but her mother tells her not to tie it because it is supposedly forbidden for widows. Phooli immediately takes it out and returns it to Anandi. This scene is  really touching when phooli has tears in her eyes and this makes one think that life can be so rude and harsh to a girl who does not even understand the meaning of marriage has to sacrifice her desires and wishes to obey the rituals of widowhood.

Overall the acting of each person in the serial is really good. Specially of Anandi and the Dadi Sa. Her acting is so matured and the expressions on her face seem so real. She actually looks like a real Dadi Sa who is terror in the family. Anandi has a cute face, chirpy voice and good acting. All characters fit well in the story line.  Anandi’s sSaasu Maa Sumitra looks really pretty in the Rajasthani dresses and jewellery.

The background score is too good. There is a song in this serial which is run almost in every episode “ Choti si Umar mein bihai main Babul Sa , Babul mujhse kya ho gayi bhool” A really touching and thought provoking song which makes one think and brings tears in ones eyes.

The serial has really wonderful sets. I think it is some Haveli of Rajasthan in which the Serial has been shot. But whatever it is, it is beautiful.  I have always wanted to see the palaces and havelis of Rajasthan and it is a good treat to the eyes.

Also, the jewellery and colourful dresses shown in the serial are wonderful and are having a complete Rajasthani touch.  I really like the way rajasthani women dress up. I like the pallu covering the head. Nowadays these things are rarely seen in Indian families. A complete Indian woman.

Apart from all this the language used in this serial is complete Rajasthani. Sasra – meaning In laws house, Suthra- meaning Good, Sachi meaning really/ truly, Bindni meaning Wife… It is really so nice to listen to this traditional language.

Eveything perfect. Good screenplay, dialogues, sets, acting. You name it and this serial has it.
