The Bajaj Pulsar was a product that was a risk Bajaj Autos took when they launched it some 5 years ago.

The styling was a pretty low down carbon copy of the Honda 600 series bikes.

The pivotal point for the company was to ensure that the rather different looking bike is accepted by the Indian who were so used to the plain janes in the Hero Honda Splendor, the TVS Max 100 and the Hero Honda CD 100.

The experiment paid off and Bajaj Auto soon saw their profits rising.

What went to the success of the bike?

The styling was a fresh change for sure.

The 150 cc was yet to catch up then as the speed to thrill and the mileage factors were not synonymous then.

Yet with a slew of finance options the owning of a Pulsar was a reality.

And it showed with the sales figures.

Yet!! I would not really recommend one of the best looking bikes in the country.

Dont get me wrong but the reasons that I state can logically be understood.

~The Bajaj Pulsar is a great looker. Yet the bulky fuel tank hampers handling.

~The Electricals are a suspect too.

~The disc brakes tend to rust with the slight water spray.

But all the above are minor defects.

~The major area of grudge that I found in the Baja Pulsar was that the gear box

was notchy.

~It is quite prone to knocking at the lower gears and this doesnot translate too well

to the lower end torque.

~ The engine specs is 143.9cc. This is the smallest of the competition viz Fiero F2

(147.5 cc), Honda Unicorn(149.5cc).

~The gears have this irritating habit of false neutrals too

But then I would not discourage someone to buy a Pulsar.

I maintain that it is a speedy bike and has the looks.

I own a F2 and am really happy with it. Yet I have driven a lot of Pulsar and I believe that the views that I state here can be taken as reliable.

But for me the areas where I could not justify a Pulsar purchase was the long distance comfort and the notchy gear box.

The mileage is up there with the competition where F2 is the leader.

I would expect your comments.
