Am planning to purchase a bike, which would be my second, and have 3 choices for it. P 220, Karizma, and Y R15. Was checking up on this, when I came across many reviews of Bajaj Pulsar. Thought I would write my own, as many reviews seemed to give a completely different picture (regarding Bajaj reliability) from the experience I have had with my wonderful first machine, Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTSi.

From the moment I decided to purchse a bike, I knew it had to be a Pulsar. I had rode it once, for a short distance of 2 Kms( and this when I dint know to ride a bike), but was completely taken up with it. When I purchased the bike, I dint know to ride a bike properly, just had cycle balance, and knowledge (Theoretical) of how to ride a bike.

Point is I learnt riding on my bike, hence put it through a lot of rough treatment in the first month. I dint fall or something, but gear shifting and revving wasnt always proper, that too in the running in period. In spite of this, in spite of not being properly run in, never has the bike given me any issues. This after having rode the bike for 40 K kms now, consisting of reckless racing, touring, riding off road, all stuff that can be thrown at it. Also had a couple of crashes, one being a traffic stopping 80 Kmph crash in the heart of Hyderabad city. Still, never, ever any issues. Hence I have to disagree with all claims of Bajaj being unreliable based on my own experience.

Now as regards the bike itself, I have always found it to be a tremendous, macho looking bike. The big fuel tank, the sharp lines, all speak of masculinity. It was a product which was apt to be branded defenitely male (Am not sure the branding would have worked with CBZ). The look from the front, on the main stand, with handle slightly bent, or leaning sportily on the side stand is just excellent. I liked the traditional look, hence my bike is one with a round headlamp, and no sporty dome (second bike would most certainly be sporty). From side the proportions speak of a well built person, the tank signifying a muscular chest, running into proportioned lower body towards taillight.

WRT performance, there never has been any issue over that, at the time I purchased. Latyer, Unicorn, and CBZ extreme did come up, but am sure the new advanced P 150 would beat them in all respects. I had this habit of accelarating out of traffic lights, and can say proudly that the only bike which ever had me beat was the Big Bro, P180. No CBZ, nothing could ever stand up to the Pulsar accelaration. The maximum speed I have acheived on my bike is 107 Kmph, with a 55 Kg Pillion, on Noida- Greater Noida expressway. Held the speed for a minute before dropping down to the 90s. Mileagewise, have always obtained a mileage of more than 50 Kmpl, which is good, considering the way I ride, and the heavy traffic conditions.

Another factor about the bike is that it is extremely fun to ride. It entices you to do things, to rev up, to scream past other bikes. Guess this is in part due to the tremendous tearawaway accelaration, and the short gearing the bike uses. Unicorn is much more sedate, though it maybe faster, you dont really feel it. Its more a commuter bike than a fun one. CBZ was knocked out long back. With Pulsar, you can have your long rides at 80+ kmph when you want that also, ahve done enough rides myself, in all climates, without facing any issues.

So now, when I have to choose between the three and am in a spot, as each have their own strong points, Karizma(looks), P 220 (Amazing Features), YZ R15( Power n looks, but expensive, reliability a big question mark), guess my previous experience would give Bajaj an edge.

Signing off, always happy to recommend Bajaj Pulsar 150.......
