finally something india has been waiting for ages for.a motorcycle with a good look, decent engine and good mileage.not to forget power too.for years bajaj relied on their ever popular scooters , autorickshaws and its cheap motorcycles. every motorcycle india ever had or made looked like a glorified cycle.no special design or styling.that same look and plus power at the cost of mileage or vice versa.before the pulsar came out the indian motorcycle market was dominated by the yamahas.after the exit of the ever popular Rd 350 people wanted something with power ,looks and mileage.

after the long wait the bike we all wanted came out from a company we all expected it not to come out from.the first good looking design came out from hero honda with their CBZ.the bike looked good it gave you a that look but that engine is what disappointed you.i expected it to be faster than the dominant RX135.all indian bikers soon could breathe a sigh of relief as the bajaj brought out the pulsar after the eliminator.this time faster than the yamahas and fuel efficient.

ENGINE-

the engine is one of the muscular parts of this bike.there are two variants.the pulsar with a 150 cc engine and the pulsar with a 180 cc engine.the 150 cc engine gives you 12 bhp with a good mileage of 77 kilometers per litre and the 180 cc is the fastest in its class so far.at about 15 bhp 1 bhp more than the Rx135 has remained more popular with the younger generation.this engine is tempting but like always the damn power comes at the cost of mileage.

the main difference between these two variants are the prices and the accesories.the 180 cc and the 150 cc will vary by atleast 10,000 rupees.another advantage is that the bike comes with all this at an affordable price.the transmission for both bikes are 5 speed.the gear shift follows the traditional yamaha types.even though come people have complained about the shift I had no problems when I rode the 180 cc.the acceleration in the 180 cc variant I not bad and the 150 cc version is pretty good too.the 150 cc version im sure is in real competition with the fiero and is the most popular variant.even though I have experienced a few problems with the clutch of the motorcycle I loved the bike and took the bike on a nice large round.well to my luck the friend who owned this bike was ok with it.he had the money was every one's response tot hat gesture.

LOOKS-

the looks are what had everyone drooling over the bike.''ITS A BOY'' is what the ad said.but I find that the tank is the only part of the bike that has that muscular look.but overall the bike has that sporty look that people are going for these days.the tank is pretty big and is curved nicely and I guess seduced every one to buying it.''OOPS I forgot its male right?''the look of that tank and the cool looking pulsar sticker cutting straight across it looks very good.it has a nice looking fuel cap too.it is designed like the ones that are present on airplanes.in the advertisement it says that this design enables increase in mileage and futhur cruising distance. how? I wonder.

from the front the bike doesnt look all that bad.the tank might make it look a little pregnant but the way the person sits on the bike balances that feel out nicely.the instrumentation is also nice to look at.but you do get the feeling that they tried to make it look a little too snazzy.the instrumentation comes complete with a speedometer, rpm meter, fuel meter (which I find is the most essential as the bike made earlier didnt have them),odometer and a trip meter.the only disadvantage of the trip meter is that it cam be tampered with when the bike is parked so you basically you loose track of the mileage you want to calculate at the end.

from the side the bike does look nice and sporty and I like the back very much.the entire design ends in a slightly pointed tip at the end which I think looks very nice.the rear lights have broken away from the traditional box like look and give a little bit of shape.the turning lights also have a look that adds to that sleek look of the bike.for me the look from the back of the bike is mostly weighed down by the design of the silencer in most of the bikes.even though this bike does not have a twin silencer that thick and well rounded design that looks like a missile is very neat.most of the colours for this bike are not too attractive though.i would highly recommend a blue or a black.the purple makes it look like a brinjal and the silver doesnt look very nice with those purple stickers.the wine red colour isnt ver attractive either as it should have had a little more black to balance it out.

the main difference that I have spotted between the 150cc and the 180 cc variants are that rear tires.the 180 cc version has a thicker rear tire than the 150 cc version.the thicker tire looks really good on this bike.that is why most of the people replace the original rear tire with an eliminator rear tire.the seating position is good but doesnt beat the look of the seating position on the CBZ.

RIDE-

the ride is nice.like I mentioned earlier the bike has quick pick up and I didnt find any problem with the gear shift.the bike is solid that I can definitely say.it took me some time to get used to it as I had just got off my kinetic to go for a test ride on that bike.but one thing I liked about it was the stability.that is the biggest safety feature that the bike has and the most important part of safety for bikes.the front seating position is nice but I think the foot rests could be pushed back a bit to give is that sports bike looks.

the only problem I experienced with the seating position were caused by the length of my legs.they protruded till the front of the tank so it looked a little weird.but the bike is comfortable.the back is what looks very uncomfortable from the side.but once you sit on it it isnt that bad.the sound from the silencer could be changed to give is a more silence as most sports bikes have that.this one sounds like beating a tin can with a wooden stick.but its up to the mark on the expectations that have been set on this bike.

FEATURES-

The features on this bike have beaten competition by a small margin as its not too significant. The instrumentation comes with a trip meter enabling you to check your mileage.the traditional turning and neutral position lights are present but comes with and warning light to tell you that your side stand is down. I have seen some ugly accidents with the side stand down.the 180 cc version comes with a standard fitting of a disc brake it the front and an electric start. The 150 cc version has an optional fitting of a disc brake and an electric start. The problem with that electric start is that it lets out a sound like a dry cough when you start it.

OVERALL-

The bike is good enough for our roads.the ride is comfortable and has that acceleration that will get you out in front.it has that look which turns heads and the power greater than that of the dominant Yamahas.the pulsars have stormed on to our roads because of the appeal it has with the customers. But did I ever expect it from bajaj? Nope. But im glad that one company has taken a little interest in the people’s wants out of a bike and have gone ahead with it.
