Hi all, Currently I own a black Bajaj Pulsar 180. It is been a year now, that I am using it. And overall, I am pretty content with the performance of this bike.

HOW I DECIDED ON A PULSAR 180

I had been using a Bajaj Caliber (bought it in 1998), the initial models. And I was not very impressed with that Bajaj product. So, then, last when, I decided to buy a new bike, I had my eyes set on the CBZ. But somehow, looking at the experience of some of my very close friends, I opted out of the CBZ option. Infact, I had paid 56k for a silver CBZ and then backed out on the deal from City Motors, Pune. Then, karizma had also just been launched. And I didnot want to take a risk on the Karizma for 86K. Right across the road was the Bajaj Showroom.

Here, I found the sales team very very impressive; I told them, what I was looking for in a bike. I got a test ride on a purple colored pulsar 180 and it was very very impressive. I immediately booked the bike. I also got a test-ride on the 150. But I went in for the 180, for the wider tyres and mileage was not of a major concern to me. And few days later I got the delivery.

HOW THE PULSAR 180 PERFORMS

The bike is a pleasure to ride. I travel to my place, a distance of 12 kms one way. And trust me I enjoy the ride. I feel good about the ride on this beauty. The 180 got a shorter handle bar, so make one feel very sporty. The pickup is just fantastic. No vibrations at all. There a long flyover on my way home. On this stretch, I take up my bike to 105 kmph, with ease. I am sure the bike more than this. But, the pune roads do not allow you to. Handling the bike in the traffic is also very good. And the thick rear tyres give a good road grip. On the whole, a good performer.

The Mileage and maintenance

Mileage is less compared to the other bikes, which is obvious. It is after all a 180 CC engine. I have been consistently getting a mileage of around 36-38 kmpl. Pretty decent I would say. Costs me a little more than a rupee for a kilometer. Maintenance ? actually none so far. No major / minor expenses. Just the regular services at the Bajaj Service Station. I had got this Teflon coating done for my bike during the first service. I am not very sure of how useful it was. Costed me around. Rs. 600.

About the Service Station

There was a initial problem with my bike, related to the trip meter. The reading after 99.9 kms used to fall back on 99.9 kms and did not turn to 100.0. Thanks to the Bajaj Service station, they got the faulty meter replaced, at no cost to me. An advice, as a part of my experience, specially in Pune city, please go to the Bajaj Showroom / Service station at Wakdewadifor any sales / service / problems for you bajaj vehicles. They do a good job.

Some concerns

I found that there is some overheating with this bike. It has not troubled me in any way. But just an observation. And also, I have not gone on any very long drives on this bike. Upto, 40-50 kms, I have done a couple of times. I have been this place called Sinhangad ghat, outside pune city with a 11 kms steep ghat; the bike performed GOOD. This made me more happy about buying this bike. Second, there is this back problem, I experience if ride the bike for a longer duration, but that I guess is with all bikes.

So, this was about my experience. Go for this bike, of you want good performance and good ride quality. Then you have to make sure, you are ready for the mileage of less than 40.

Thanks for reading my review.
