Well, technically the RS 200 is basically the faired cousin of the 200 NS. It has a reworked version of the 199.5cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, four-stroke engine from the 200 NS, producing an impressive 24.2bhp at as high as 9750rpm, not to mention the 18Nm of torque. Everything else is all new, starting with the instrument cluster, to the way the key is shaped.

Bajaj have really gone all out with the Pulsar RS 200. Braking comes courtesy a 300mm rotor disc brake in front and 230mm disc at the rear, the RS 200 comes pre-fit with ABS  on the front wheel, which is a first in the brand’s line-up, a Bosch-made single channel system that keeps the tyre from locking under emergency braking.

Definitely. The ultra modern styling with sharp design cues, screams for a second glance. The whole transformer-esque look, may be a little over the top for the more reserved individual, but for those in the 18-25 year bracket looking to make an impression, the Pulsar is the way to go. Basically, Love it or hate it. Ignore it, you cannot.

The RS 200 is practically faultless, at the price it is, it is extremely good value with properly done build quality to boot. If we had to nitpick, one the things is the riding position is a bit high, which will work fine in the city, but on the track it felt a bit too upright. As a result tucking in under the visor(which is miniscule to begin with!) is impossible. A let down, considering that it practically negates the whole purpose behind the fairing.

The RS 200 adds on an extra bhp from the same NS powerplant which means that it really does hustle. We’d expect 0-60kmph times to be in the 4 second region, and all  things considered, it should hit in the hundred mark in around 11 seconds, give or take half a second. This makes the Pulsar RS 200 a properly quick 200cc motorcycle.

Bajaj have stuck to the same formula that they used with the NS, practicality over all-out focus. Which means that again the RS 200 will be easier to live with than the manic KTM RC200. Which, is it’s only direct rival. On that score, if you are going to spend time on the track getting your lean on, you might prefer the RC. However, if you want a smooth, refined daily driver with an odd track day thrown in, the RS 200 is the one for you. What will be interesting to watch is how the RS 200 affects sales of smaller sport bikes like the R15 or the CBR 150, which are both priced over the RS.
