My Bajaj Pulsar 220-DTSFI review-Part 1 Hi

I call my Pulsar 220 the Devil of Phantom. The headlamp is real eye-catching. It has that Wolf like appearance. Looks as we know is relative. But for me my Devil is the best looking Bike on Indian road. Well lets not get too complacent at this moment. The real thing is yet to be uncovered- the performance.

With 220 cc displacement and producing the same power as a Bullet 350 I believe it is one of the most powerful bike an Indian company has ever produced. 20 bhp is simply rocking and specially when you need this raw power to overtake a nagging vehicle. This is where I like the bike most. In fifth gear if you suddenly increase the acceleration the beastly power of 20 bhp can be felt instantaneously.

I am not going to specify any tech. specification since the same can be obtained from the reliable Bajaj website.

Here I would only mention my experience with the bike before the first servicing.

I have already covered 470 km. By tomorrow or day after I am going to give it for the first servicing. So thought this is the right time to write about my experience with the bike.

Here I would take into consideration two trips where the bike went through various road and climatic conditions. One from Panvel to Pune(the altitude problem was felt) and another from Panvel to Alibug(the gear shifting problem started).

I never crossed 70km/hr so the max speed at which the bike may become unstable is not known to me. May be in the second part I would be able to tell you. The braking was good if applied properly since both the front and the rear have disc brakes. The other good thing about the bike is its balance. I never ever faced any problem in balancing the bike be it in any road or climatic conditions. This is where it can compete with the likes of Honda and Yamaha. Mileage is close to 35km/Lt as of now.Now the dark side of the bike:

The gear shifting still remains a problem with Pulsar. Finding neutral is quite struggling. Even if you find the green light it may not be the case as it seems to be. This is where I am really disappointed, but as you know hope keeps a man alive, I sincerely believe the problem will be rectified after the first servicing. Another problem that I faced was while climbing altitude. May be I was unable to shift the gear properly or may be due to unknown road condition. But I believe it's more my inability than the bike's. The third one is about the fit and finishing of the bike.I am absolutely unhappy in this regard. There are many places where paints are not proper. Joints are not properly fitted. All these when I pointed out I was told that even a Mercedes car didn't have flawless fit and finish. I really do not know what to say next. Bajaj v/s Mercedes can anyone imagine!

One special note. I do not know but due to some very specific reason the bike has minimum rpm kept at 2000 as always indicated in the console.Apart from these two I found my machine absolutely brilliant. Still today people are curious about the bike. The famous punch line of Onida perfectly fits here - Neighbours envy Owners pride.
