This is my first review in Mouthshut

I own a Bajaj Platina 100 cc, Metallic Black with Silver. I purchased the bike from Popular Bajaj, Bangalore on September 2009.

I am in marketing. I used to travel 60-80 kms a day within city limits. So I decided to go for Platina as it offers a decent mileage. I have a'89 model Kawazaki KB 100 in my home town and I am really impressed with the bike. That made me to stick my buying decision for a Bajaj bike only.

Before buying Platina, I was a regular user of public transport in Bangalore. As my job requires frequent travelling, most of the time I was in BMTC buses only. Due to traffic and poor connectivity of public transport, travelling was difficult.

After buying Platina, I am very happy. The bike is very good for city driving. I usually maintain a speed of 30-40 kmph in city and 40-50 kmph in ring roads. The bike is giving a constant mileage of 80-85 kmpl. I used to fuel my bike from Shell only.

My friend had bitter experiences from the service centers of Popular Bajaj and suggested me to get the service of bike done from VST Bajaj. The service done by VST is excellent and I have not serviced my bike from any other place. The odometer is now touching 31, 000 kms and I regularly service the vehicle on an interval of 2500 kms.

The front brake shoe and brake cable got replaced on last service at 30, 000 kms. Apart from that there are no part replacements.

The cons I faced with the bike are

  1. The tyres and tubes are of poor quality. The stock tires are supplied by Eurogrip. The rear tube got punctured twice. I was checking the air pressure regularly on a weekly basis and was maintaining as per the Bajaj standards. Then one of the elder person in a puncture shop near HSR Layout suggested me to put 30 psi air in front tyre and 40 psi in rear tyre. Afterwards I regularly check the air on a weekly basis and keep it on 30 psi and 40 psi. Thanks for the solution given by the old man, no puncture afterwards.

  2. The seats are long and wide. But the cushioning is not adequate. I am 6 feet 1 inch and weighs 90kg. My back and bottom is paining after 20 kms of non-stop ride. I am not able to find a solution on the seating comfort. If you have any suggestions, do help me.

I will recommend Bajaj Platina for people who just want to commute from Point A to B at a minimal cost. Platina is not good for high speed drives. The bike is good for single hand use only. If you do the periodic service regularly, Platina will be in prime condition. The paid service of Platina for a periodic interval of 2500 kms is costing me Rs 800/-

One more important thing. Most of my rides, I will be alone. The pulling power of Platina uphill with a pillion rider is inadequate. On flat surfaces, Platina offers a good ride even with a pillion rider.

Suggestions welcome:-)

Safe Riding and Share The Road

After a long time am continuing my review. My Platina is now clocked at 53900kms. Still am getting a mileage of 80km plus. Now my daily running reduced to 36kms. Am servicing the bike at an interval of 3000kms nowadays, thanks to Shell Helix engine oil. Earlier I was using Bajaj engine oil or Castrol Activ 4T. After shifting to Shell Helix, the engine is more smoother.

Another amazing thing is my Platina still having the same stock tyres when I purchased it back in 2009. The tyres are offering enough grip even after running for 53900kms. I have changed the rear tube couple of times. Chain sprocket changed when the bike clocked 50000kms.
