I bought a Discover 135cc in June 2008; its run 5000 kms. Thankfully I feel I made the right choice.I have read some pretty negative reviews here but I guess there is no vehicle in the world which would satisfy everyone in the world. Speaking of my personal experience:-
The major plus-point I noticed is that this bike has both good looks as well as great mileage: Some bikes are sold purely on looks and some purely on mileage factor. Its rare to find one which has considerable potions of both; and here, I believe, Discover 135cc scores heavily.
Mileage: I get a constant mileageof 55kmpl.
Looks: I personally like it better than pulsars; firstly, every second bike on the road these days seems to be a pulsar, whereas you won't find that many Discovers(the new sporty model). The'less common' factor always appeals to me, whether its a bike or a woman.
Your gf won't sniff at the idea of climbing up on it behind you either. The gears: work like butter: smooth, without any trouble. And personally since I don't like the 1-down, 4-up bullS*it as in many bikes, I find it less complicated as all the gears are to the front.
Speed: While its true that its not a'pulsar', I have ridden at 100 on highways without any'vibration' or other nonsense.Brakes: Its reasonably safe as you won't skid even if you make a dead break at 60.provided of course that someone from behind doesn't run over you .hahaa.
Comfort & Handling: Exceptionally good, and that goes for pillion-rider as well.I was recently toying with the idea to go for Avenger 200cc, but the biggest S*it point of that bike is that it will burn out the buns of pillion-riders on long drives because the backseat is equally bad and narrow as the rider seat is heavenly.
Ideally an Avenger is supposed to be taken out on the highway for'cruising' experience.but just suppose you feel like cruising with your gf on a highway on a long haul, would you feel good if her buns burn out midway? Hiihi;-)
In a nutshell: Go for Discover if you want a reasonably'all-round' package: looks, mileage, comfort and control, decent speed(80-90 without any'light bike' feeling). If you are one of those bikers biker whose major thing is speed then I believe why even buy RE Bullet, you should go for those >10 lakh imported bikes which are over 1300cc.
Otherwise, go for Discover 135cc.
Cheers!
