Discover was on of the path-breaking motorbike when launched and
since then lot of water has flown down the bridge. Still there are
reasons why it remains one of the best selling bike in Indian mobike
arena, I have tried to elaborate the same in below lines and more
precisely from a layman point of view.
Background
When It was launched in its 125 CC avtaar, perhaps it had so many innovations & premium attributes attached
It was full blown with disc break option, electric start, cutting edge styling.
The pick-up was great, even great for many of the higher cubic capacity bikes.
It kept adding Bajaj innovations like - SNS suspension, smaller wheels for better shockup travel.
Bike is good in terms of handling & road manners.
And yes it was able to match that magical forte of Hero-Hondas - fuel-efficiency.
Now:-
with growing sells and all the added oomph in styling and innovations -
Bajaj explored all possible segments - 112CC, 125CC & the latest
135CC. The low down of this segmentation is that there is no obvious
difference between the models, except for 135CC, a small 135CC logo at
the rear of the bike.
And it is reason enough that one who is spending
more money on say 125CC or 135CC, if he does not get a distinctive
styling then how he can show off for which he has made himself lighter
by a few thousand rupees.
One may argue that the difference lies in
performance, but here comes the ultimate low-down - there is not much
difference on this front too. With this we come to low-down side of the
Bajaj Discover Package
:-
- Bajaj's marketing teams strategies to extend
the brand name seems to be back-firing as there is no much difference
between the products, and one is not willing to pay a few thousand
extra for no show. And even the disc break is also gone from all models
of 112 & 125(so compromised safely for some styling of alloy
wheels etc)
- Even performance wise there is very less difference between the
models, just a few litres more fuel efficiency or a a couple of seconds
faster in speed, and all the speed stops at the top when none of the
two(125 & 112) is able to cross the barrier of 90Km per hour.
3.The engine refinement remains poor till date, lot of vibrations
once you cross 70Km per hour mark, gear-shifting is also not smooth
(which has always been a case with Bajaj Products).
- Competition has better products now - Hero Honda Super Splendor, Yamaha Gladiator etc.
Conclusion:
There is not much difference between 112, 125 or even for 135 to an
extent, the refinement is always a concern. But overall a certain
consumer-segment which requires a tested but stylish bike for a
comfortable pricing, good fuel efficiency & some dashing initial
pick-up, for them Discover is still a new discovery.
