I had a very stringent budget of about 40 K - 42 K to buy a bike. I had gone through a long process of research to buy the best possible bike that would suit my preferences which included mileage ( first priority ) , decent looks and comfortable ride with good hold on the ground.

At first I had decided to buy a Bajaj Platina since it was the cheapest bike available but after having a test ride it was the bike I never would have bought. Later I test drove the Platina 125 which was a relief since it performed well. I almost decided to buy it , when I saw the all new Bajaj Discover DTS-Si. I thought it to be the normal 135 cc discover but was surprised to know that it was a new model launched on 27 July.

I went online researched on information about this bike and came to an opinion with whatever info I got.. I went to three different Bajaj showrooms and test drove the bike until I was fully satisfied and decided to buy the bike..

I Booked the bike on 14 August with full payment and got the bike delivered on 18 August with registration. I had to shell out 46000 bucks to get the bike without any additional fittings.

Now coming to the actual review. The bike is a dream machine and really a surprise package.. The company which decided to exit the 100 cc segment is back with a bang.. Like any other bike this too has its negatives which are negligible and believe me you wont regret buying it. I never felt like I am riding an usual 100 cc bike , this bike is far far better than any other 100 cc bike in india right now..

I am giving this review after covering 800 Kms on the bike and after its first service

+ves

1) The ride is smooth thanks to 5 gears it has ( First in this segment )

2) The bike starts easily without any issues thanks to the half kick and electric start which is a standard fitting ( First in this segment )

3) The fact the bike has a smooth ride is also cause of the gas shocks in the rear which is a standard fitting ( First in its class )

4) This bike can really surprise you with the mileage it gives..The 10 liter tank when full can make you forget the way to a gas station but one would have to go anyways to keep the Tyre pressure intact.. I am getting a mileage of 70 plus for sure but don't have the exact figure...Working on it will update when I have the exact figure

5) The bikes finishing is good

6) The bike is sturdy while cornering

7) Handle positioning is good for perfect handling

8) The bike is really quiet and doesn't make any weird noise as reported in some reviews

9) Braking is good and responds well

10) Overall look of the bike is pleasant with three stripe LED lights ( Again first in its segment)

-ves

1) The auto choke is not a great feature - cause it never works ( I was told by the bajaj techs that don't have to accelerate to start the bike since it has auto choke - its the vice versa)

2) Headlight is powerful but is all over the place and is not good at focusing

3) Though the bike gives a lot of confidence the Eurogrip Tyres are a let down cause sometimes you would feel a little bit shaky on bad roads

4) Gear shifting is not that smooth since one would have to keep releasing and holding the clutch to get it to neutral - this can get you stuck at places and get some yelling from people.

5) The bike does give lower back pain at times

But I would surely recommend this product to anyone who is on the look out for a 100 CC bike

with far better performance and mileage and cost effective than any other ordinary 100 cc bike.

I would again update about this bike once I cross 1000 kms after which I could take the bike above 45 km/hr since that's the speed limit I have maintained all this while which could also be the reason for the excellent mileage I am getting.

Update as on 07th September

Out of nowhere the auto choke ( which previously I mentioned as does not work ) feature has started working properly in my bike but still have to check it out on a cold or a rainy day ! Anyways I have clocked 1040 kms on my bike and as mentioned in the manual tried taking the bike up to speed between 50-55 km/hr..The bike runs smooth till 45 km/hr but after that I feel vibration till 50 km/hr but beyond that the bike runs smooth again....there is lot of vibration in the bike when in a stationary position...haven't got it checked not sure if this problem is with all the bikes or only mine but its no much of an inconvenience...

As far as mileage is concerned I last filled 8.5 liters of petrol in my bike from shell petroleum on 24th August..the no of km's clocked after filling the petrol is 630 km's and still has not come to reserve...will again update when the bike goes in to reserve...

Update as on 08th September

After covering a distance of 647 kms with 8.5 liters of petrol my bike came to reserve..So when calculated the mileage achieved is 76.12 km/L which I think is an awesome figure to get in perfect city riding condition...

Update as on 01st October

Well the bike continues to give amazing mileage and is performing well as a commuter bike...I have covered 2100 km and tried taking the bike past 60 km/hr speed....Now this would sound disheartening , the bike vibrates like crazy once past 55 km/hr mark but up to 55 km/hr its smooth....But to be honest I am not worried about this since I know I am owning a commuter bike powered with a 100 cc engine and cant expect more than the performance its gives which is better than any 100 cc bike available in the competitive market...No other issues have come up as of now...

Update as on 06th October

I was able to reach a speed of 80km/hr but didn't try to push the bike further , but I am sure I could have taken the bike to higher speed ! In my last update I mentioned that the bike vibrates a lot when taken beyond 55 km/hr , but surprisingly you wont feel the vibration when the bike is taken to higher speed ! Now what I believe is that its only between 55 - 60 km/hr that I feel the huge vibration else its fine ! Bike has covered 2400 kms and is time for the 2nd free servicing !

Update as on 08th October

Second Free servicing done ! Bike has become better and smoother ! The vibration at high speed is lesser now ! The only glitch I find now in the bike is non smooth gear shifting which is a common problem in all Bajaj bikes , rest all good ! There is a good news for prospective buyers , now the Bajaj Discover DTS-Si comes with Dunlop Tyres , this would surely result in improved handling ! I am totally happy and satisfied with the kind of service Khivraj Motors - Chennai has rendered till now !
