I am using my Caliber 115 since 2006. my bike has done 42, 000 KM and still going strong

This bike gives me great mileage of 70+ in Chennai City. The engine is rock solid and feels like new even now.

I jus do regular oil change every 2k-3k KM and company service once a year.

Things I like abt my bike -

-

  1. Great Mileage for a 7 year old bike(70+ in Chennai City) and it had been consistent from day one all through this 7 years

  2. Rock solid engine. Starts with one kick and you can hardly hear the engine noise in idling

Once I did a trip from Chennai to Bangalore(350 KM) with just couple of short breaks and the Bike kept going. Am sure Splendor engine would have ceased for this trip

  1. Maintenance is pretty low and you hardly require maintenance other than oil change every 2-3K KM

  2. All spares are available and even the Planita or CT 100 parts fits for this model. So you'll not be in trouble for next 10 years or more

  3. This bike has very Easy handling and runs in tough weather(be it rain or shine) no issues. you can always trust this one

  4. When I took it for service last time the Bajaj mechanic asked me if I ever re-bore my engine. He was amused to learn that its was orginal since the engine was rock solid.

I asked him for suggestion to exchange this bike with Avenger, and he advised me not to dispose this bike for any reason as its tough to get such a good one these days. He even offered to buy my bike if I ever felt like selling it. But then I decided not to give it away.

Things I wish were better with my Bike -

-

  1. Rear Suspension was not great. I changed my bike's rear suspenion with Platina SNS suspension(cost me 1600 for a pair) and its better than the original, though not great.

  2. I wish the road grip was better. But its not an issue to me since I dont do more than 50(rarely 60) in this bike. But you can overcome this by replacing it with better & wider rear tyres

  3. Vibration is quite felt when you cross 40 and that makes me stick to speed around 50. Though engine is noiseless, vibration is felt more at speeds greater than 40

  4. Gear shift is pretty hard from 1 to 2. The service mechanic told me that its a common problem with all Caliber 115's. I wish this bike had 5 speed instead of 4; once you reach the 4th you feel the complusion to go once more up, but its not present(most of friends also said the same).

I even feel like changing it with 5 speed Bajaj Discoverer or Bajaj Wind gear once the original wears off. Am not sure if it would be compatible. Does anyone know if this can be done?

Overall I like my bike for what it is and am planning to keep it as long as possible.
