Baba was the only movie that was hyped almost equal to some stunning Hollywood hits. For the past 3 months are so, almost all magazines did a cover story on Baba. After the not so happy opening, Baba was cut short and some lengthy scenes were cut and this has done a world of good for Baba and his fans. So this review will be the review of the newly edited Baba.

Baba is all about Superstar, who happens to be a disciple of the Great Babaji and he fails in his initiation process because of some desires and so by the powers of Babaji he is born again as Baba for Sujatha. Sujatha is Baba's mother and Nambiar is the uncle. Baba grows up into a local goon with almost everybody scared by his gang the Kings. Goundamani as Annamalai steals the show in the gang with some help from Karunas who is also good. Baba is taken back to his Guru who blesses him with a mantra which can be used 7 times with some stipulations on how to use it.

Baba who is so far a playboy wastes 4 of them in unconvincing manner which leaves a lot to be wondered about the direction and screenplay. His uncle makes him realize the real power of God and finally he has to settle some old scores with Aashish Vidyarthi and his son Riyaz Khan who are helped by the CM and Amrish Puri the bad guy. Finally after his mother's death he goes back the second time and this time he is blessed by his Babaji. Baba wants to leave in the Himalayas for ever but his Babaji gives him a choice and Baba decides to settle down here once for all after watching the death of the good CM shot down by the bad guys.

Meanwhile Manisha enjoys a duet with the Superstar which is shot in the Swiss and the song looks good in t he screen. Maya Maya is the best song with some good choreography by Lawrence while Prabhu Deva has done for Baba Kichu Kichu. Dippu Dippu is not worth watching but Sakthi Kodu sounds and looks nice.

Dialogues are fiery at times but sublime most of the movie. Stunts are handled by Vijayan and he needs a pat for that. Good job. Camera by Chota K Naidu is brilliant in some frames and it is ordinary in some frames. Music sounds good in the film with some catchy rap background during the stunts. Art Director G.K. has done a terrific job with his temple set.

Two things have made this movie a mediocre one. They are Make up of Rajnikanth and screenplay. Both those departments could have been done better. Suresh Krishna has done a better job than Aalavandhan but no way near Badshah or Annamalai. Graphics are average but in the fight scenes they are ok. Narration is sloppy at times and logic is not to be found at many scenes.

APPLAUSE : Stunts and Dance. Music is hugely helped by Lyrics. Comedy.

AHEM! : Screenplay and Makeup.

VERDICT : Rajni sails throughout the film but this could have been a hit if not for the makeup and shabby screenplay. If the screenplay was left with Suresh Krishna this could have done better.
