Baazigar

Baazigar, released in 1993, was a great hit. It starred, Shahrukh and Kajol, widely acclaimed as one of the best couples in the movie industry. It was directed by Abbas-Mustan known for their slick, pacy thrillers. And, to say the short, the movie was a hit at the box office !

Plot

Shah Rukh as Ajay explains the meaning of Baazigar in the film to Kajol. He says ''the one who wins by losing is called a Baazigar.''

Ajay Sharma is a man who seeks revenge. His father, once owner of a great empire, was defrauded. His father and the whole family had to live in one room bungalows after living in a huge mansion. Soon afterwards, his father and his sister died. His mother now is suffering from a mental illness.

All this drives Ajay to revenge. He will kill the man who did this injustice to him. And to do this, he will go to any length.

Acting

Shah Rukh excels in this role. His innocent face hides the dark mask underneath. The revenge-seeker with a touch of negative is him to the core.

Kajol excels in almost all scenes. However, she does look a bit plain in the climax scenes.

Dalip Tahil plays the villain with gusto. He really is a great performer.

Shilpa Shetty is decent. But, as this was her first film, it is OK !

Pros

Very nice songs added into the film especially title track.

Great plot, super acting.

Cons

Johnny Lever should have got a bigger role. Also, two of the best songs were at the start of the film. That meant there were no songs to break the tension of the film.

All in All, a great cinema ! Must watch !
