I juss came back from watching it.Strictly below average movie, it gave me a headache [as expected].
Story :
Balraj Kapoor [AB Sr] is a businessman who enjoys a life of contenment and happiness with his biwi [Hema Malini] and son Avinash[Salman Khan]. Avinash meets Millie[Rani] and falls in love with her and are soon married and have a son.They were all happy, but fate had something else in store for them. Avinash dies and Millie's dreams and life are shattered. Balraj cudnt see the plight of his daughter in law, so he asks John to marry her and try to bring back her lost happiness. John plays Rani's best friend Rajat, who is in love with her since the time he knew the meaning of love. The story is as old as the hills.
Baabul was supposed to be the tale of a man who fights against the society and his family to get his daughter-in-law remarried..surprizingly all the fighting he does is in the last 10 mins. If u really want to see the plight of widows, what all they go thru ..watch Water. I dont knw what the writer had on his mind while writing the script. He just concentrated on stupid and dumb things.

Songs :
One of the saving graces of the film were the songs. Absolutely beautiful songs and equally well picturized.
Come on Come on - Sallu - AB rocked. BTW y was Hema Malini given such horrible steps? but overall a fun song. and I love it to bits.
Vaada Raha - Awwww Salman looked soo cute :D I love the song the way it is shot is superb.
Baawri Piya ki - The song was split in 2 parts. The 1st version is with Rani-Sallu after they get married :P and the 2nd version is after Salman dies and Rani is dancing in the rain imagining him. The 2nd version was super. :D
Gaa re Mann - AB Sr looks soo cool in the song and hema as well. Rani I thought was really graceful.
Har Manzar - Shot on John, was good.He looked kinda ugly tho :(
Bebasi Dard Ka - I absolutely love this song. And John looked really hot!
Performances :
AB Sr - He seemed to have a Baghban/Waqt hangover. But still he performed really well.He was the only reason I could sit thru the whole 3 hours.
Hema Malini - I thought her character was really confused, bored and fake. Esp in the scene where they are mourning the death of his son, the dialogues were awful. IMO she was kinda wasted.He role in Baghban was stronger and more meaningful.
Salman Khan - Was good in his role.Did his part well.the 3rd [and the last] best thing abt the film :D
John- looked really bad in some scenes esp. in the 1st part. In the 2nd part he looked hot,but he still needs to improve his acting.
Rani Mukherji - Can she plss go easy with the glycerine? She seemed to have a Hum-Tum/KANK hangover.She was good in some scenes tho..over all nothing to rave about. As much as I dislike her, I must say that she did a good job, with the awful script.
Om Puri - did his part well.
The rest were ok.
Overall : The whole film gives you a feeling of been there done that. I wouldnt watch it again for free :D Baghban was 100x better than Baabul.
5.5/10 [for songs,AB Sr, Salman and some Rani scenes]
PS - I loved AB's version of Kehta hai baabul :D
