BAA,BAHOO aur BABY-A serious comedy
Hi Friends,
This teleserial comes on Star plus on Friday,Saturday and Sunday 10pm.It comes after KBC(Kaun banega Crorepati).
I started watching it after I saw promos of it on TV. When KBC was promoted ,they promoted this along with KBC.Nice and
innovative way to promote a product along a famous product,people are bound to pay attention no wonder!
Now I will introduce you to main protagonists of this serial.
BAA
I have rarely missed any episode of this serial.Its a poignant tale of BAA who tirelessly struggled all her life to brought
up her sons and daughters,struggling along with an alcoholic husband. She even brought up some orphans too,no wonder she has
a large and kind heart,but at the same time warded off her own doctor son from her home as he married a girl of her own
choice.Its a contradiction that she doesn't have a kind heart for her own son!stupid ego,i think!Director and scriptwriter of
this serial should have kept this in their minds while writing the script.anyway..
BAHOO or rather ''BAHOOS''!
There are three daughter- in- laws of which second one Praveena and third one Meenakshi are just hilarious.These are not
regular bahus of Ekta kapoor's K serials nor the regular saas bahu saga is shown here,rather here,its a hilarious
comedy.Praveena(second bahu),wife to praveen(see the strange resemblance of husband wife name!) is taller than her husband
and she looks a bit athletic and masculine too,she is not a regular 'mangalsutra'clad wife of K serials who is ever weepy and
doing karwachauths,but Praveena is diplomatic,clever and doesn't spare any opportunity to laugh at her ever greedy,stingy and
too practical husband,of course some practicalness has rubbed off on her from her husband.
Meenakshi,the third bahu,is also hilarious and you would burst into peels of laughter after watching her innocent comedy she
creates.She is too religious and even keeps strange fasts,in which if her ever romantic husband tries to touch her,is
prohibited!She keeps endless fasts for every possible reason present under the sun!She is too gullible,no wonder she is made
fool by everyone in family and she says every time'maine kuch nahin kiya!!''.
Now The BABY
Baby is the youngest daughter of this family and most loved one in family,but is physically challenged due to polio. She
portrays the pain of being physically challenged and insecure about her love life and marriage,brilliantly.She loves Anish,a
handsome young boy who has just come from US,and she feels constantly insecure about his relationship with other girls
especially her sister-in-law's daughter.She even suspected once her sister-in-law Meenakshi when Meenakshi opened the
bathroom door of Anish when he was bathing,little stupid insecurities of human mind are displayed very well in this tele
serial.
A character called GATTU needs special mention without which this review cannot be complete who is a young somewhat mentally
retarded boy,yet simple and innocent at heart, who does daily chores in BAA household and is given equal love and affection
as to others by everyone in family.GATTU is strongly inspired by hindi films and constantly finds simile in day to day
situations with hindi films and brings much more comedy and peels of laughter by viewers in this serial.
PLUS POINTS of this serial
1.SERIOUS COMEDY:A situation which is very serious is suddenly brought to comedy in a subtle way and gives message that
everything in life including grave situations can have a comic aspect to it.It makes the situation light and makes life more
livable in this world where stress is a common thing.It looks like it got its derivation from life of famous comedy anchor
SAJID KHAN who once very courageously admitted in an interview that when his parents fought(Incidentally his father also
became alcoholic when his films bombed at box office) ,his parents would hurl empty bottles of glass at each other during
fight,and his sister FARHA KHAN(famous choreographer)and he would look at their parents with pain,and then suddenly someone
from the group of four would say something comic or funny and all the four would start laughing at it nonstop in midst of
such a threatening ,grave and hitting situation.IT looks like director has taken some clue from here.
- DIFFERENT FROM MADDING CROWD:its different from madding crowd of usual saas bahu sagas ,but may look like them due to its
name.It shows the contradictions of saas bahu ,but in a very realistic and comic way.It shows not every single saas bahu
fight,but can live like sane human beings together.BAA(saas) trusts Praveena(bahu) more than her own son Praveen.
3.EXCELLENT ACTING DONE BY ACTORS:It looks like everybody has theatre experience and they are very finely crafted actors.I
especially like BAA,Meenakshi and GATTU(Deven Bhojani).BHOJANI is the most underrated actors in recent times,i must say.He
acts superbly.
4.A FRESH BREEZE:Its very different from usual comedy serials.There are NO laughing voices in background after dialogues
which I find particularly good as these days so called comedy serials put background laughing voices after each dialogue even
if you don't find them funny or sometimes we even don't hear what was being said in a dialogue and these stupid voices come
full blown,besides they create noise pollution too.I find it stupid to place laughing background voices in comedy serials as
We (viewers) are intelligent enough to make out a meaning of any dialogue and then laugh on it rather they telling us when to
laugh.We are not dumbos,they should understand,hope some serial maker is reading it.
At last I recommend this serial to everyone who is bored and dropdead at usual Ekta kapoor K serials.This is like a fresh
breeze in a closed asphyxiated room created by K serials.It will also give respite to depressed bored people that there is a
fun side to life too.
