BBB The Superstar! Don't Miss It

No other television serial portrays to perfection the times we are living in. India is going through a phase where some old values must be left to catch on with new thinking and lifestyle. And some modern notions must be dumped to realize the benefits our culture really holds for us. Fortunately we have at least one saas-bahu serial which everybody can digest, which everybody can relate to and which truly raises the standard of television programming.

Baa Baby Aur Bahu (BBB) is a television weekly airing on Star Plus every Friday, Saturday & Sunday at 9.30pm. Don't mistake the bahu in the title for some regular & filthy saas-bahu serial. The three days it is aired are my favorites! Just don't like to miss any of it ...it is that engrossing and entertaining. Once you catch a few episodes ...you just can't get away from it.

BBB is about a joint family. Is about saas-bahu. Is about relationships. Is about ordinary life. BUT it is deeply rooted in honesty and sincerity, which is the biggest USP of this program. No overtly scheming people. No hardcore animosity. No out-of-the-box nonsense. It is amazing how the makers have come up with such a plot and characters. I must appreciate the hard work which goes in to create each and every episode of BBB. And after so many weeks the serial still hasn't lost its charm. Each episode is as fresh as the other.

Storyline: BBB is about a typical Gujarati family headed by Godavari Thakkar. They stay in the suburbs of Mumbai in an ancestral home with the many rooms, one bathroom and a water well surrounding a beautiful courtyard. Godavari Thakkar's family consists of her 6 sons, 2 daughters, their spouses (4 bahus & 1 son-in-law) and grand-children. BBB is just a cool ride into the lives of these people, their antics, their problems, their solutions, their sorrows and happiness.

Characterizations: Hats off to the cast and the characterizations. Its mind boggling how each character has been sculptured, making each one of them absolutely distinct from each other yet connected harmoniously. They are like spices in a basket which make a garam masala. What amazes me is how each actor has adopted his/her character to perfection and sticks to the language, gestures, thought-process and actions throughout ...making us believe that they are real.

There is a strict 'Baa' who runs the house with iron-hand. Her alcoholic husband who hardly contributes to the family. Arvind the eldest son who has a habit of shouting 'hhuuu' in various tones depending on his intentions. Praveen the second son who is always thinking of money. Then there are the 'Bahus' ...Leela the stylish, Praveena the bindaas bahu and Meenaxi the religiously inclined naive bahu who cries at the drop of a pin. 'Baby' the daughter is the darling of the house and is cared for as she is suffering from polio. Among the many characters there is also 'Gattu' ...Godavari's son who has grown up in body but not in mind. He is like a kid and has a very very special place in the family.

Deven Bhojani plays Gattu with perfection. Simply amazing performance. He plays a fresh character which one has not seen on television or elsewhere. My sincere thanks to Deven for bringing out a jewel of a character with a powerful performance. His performance has been absolutely original and genuine ...gives the rare insight into a pure and innocent human mind. Great job!

So for pure, fun, unadulterated entertainment ...tune in to Baa Bahu Aur Baby on Star Plus this Friday, Saturday & Sunday at 9.30pm. You will surely like it. Watch it with your family ...it will double the fun!
