Well this is the age of broadband, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth etc etc and all about mobility. Gone are those days of dial ups. SA history would speak when internet was newly launched, cafes opened up and internet charger were soaring at Rs.150 per hour. Now a days it is mearly Rs.5-Rs.10 per hour.

And internet cafe business is starting to lose. Dial up charges are touching down to earth prices. And it may be possible to see dial being history as its big brother ''BROADBAND'' may lead the way.

I was using BSNL's Sancharnet since one and a half years. It has been a long time though. I had some bitter as well as some sweet moments with it.

Before I used BSNL I was using SIFY, which was way too far expensive and they are damn big cheaters. Though BSNL's scheme suited me the most. It was economical and was satisfactorily fast.

The good thing was that its 100 hr dial up package costs just Rs.550 & also the validity is a whooping 2 years.

I almost use net for 2-3 hours everyday and that too after 11pm and as per their tarrifs a single minute wont get deducted . Like this, I used to get the full value of the package & my money.

Now a days dial up charges are at Rs.9 per hr during peak hour i.e 8AM - 10:30 PM. and Rs.4 per hour during off peak hours.

Anyways I don't use dial up anymore, good things end up with sweet notes & also good things don't last for ever. When BSNL newly launched SANCHARNET it didnt have a huge customer base, as you must have guessed by now, connectivity was a breeze. it was blazing fast & you would get connected with 1 try.

But now a days things are changing. With its customer base ever increasing , these punks don't care to improve their base station capacities or install new, which can help in better connectivity.

Now scene is such you won't get connected in a single attempt. 5-6 attempts are the minimum you would need to get connected. And if you do get connected, it will be a miserly speed of 4kbps,16/32 kbps moreover it often gets disconnected in 5 minutes and lo, you gotta give 5-10 more tries to get connected once again. And once in a blue moon you will get a connection of 46 kbps witch is its optimum performance point.

So I thought it was high time to give up.

Q-What was my other option ?

A-Broadband of course that too from BSNL(Dataone)

Its cheap, very fast, reliable & convinient.

With monthly rentals of Rs.500 for 1GB, I thought it was a deal good enough for me. It was a good and bad experience both. I would have definitely recommended this product 6 months ago, but not now as this is the age of blazing BROADBAND !

HAPPY SURFING !!
