It's been nearly an year since i've been using bsnl broadband. I take back all my words which I wrote earlier.
Speed: although bsnl migrated everyone on 2x speed, i.e. My current speed is 512 kbps, it is still pathetic as most of the times, the speed drops significantly. Next, the connection reliability is also bad. In fact much worse. Although at times, one gets a decent speed, but the connection breaks down intermittently and quite often and u've to really pray to god to get back the internet. Luckily I have a tata datacard, so till such time I use it, but it is still a pain.
Customer service: worst thing in the world. They would usually not be available and when they're, they would rarely do anything for you. The nokia siemens modem given by them started to malfunction and when I asked them for replacement, they installed a "repaired" modem in its place, even though it has been less than an year since I purchased the modem. I had to fight tooth and nail with them to give me a new one and they replaced it with even a more pathetic modem. It is some local brand, whose signal power is so pathetic that I don't even get the wi-fi in my bedroom and I've to necessarily sit in the living room, where the modem is installed. Oh I forgot to add, the technician who usually comes to troubleshoot are pathetic dumb morons, who don't know anything. All they can do is to connect the wires, some basic change in modem configuration and run ping tests.
The reason why I won't get the wi-fi in my bedroom was figured out all by myself after much racking of brains and taking much help from very useful websites like indiabroadforum.com
Even their higher level authority is completely useless and moronic. One of the sdo here, kd verma is a dumb moron who never does anything. When we first approached him, he outrightly refused to help much. After we took him to task and gave the complaint in written, he assured us to help but even after many many phone calls later, he hasn't done much. Only after we approached the gm/dgm of noida, us pandey, was the modem finally replaced with the cheaper quality version. Even now the problem is grave and we haven't got any help from them. All they do is give empty assurances, while the quality of service is still very very bad!
Moreover, in my colony, only bsnl lines are present and airtel or reliance haven't put their lines and hence bsnl has its monopoly. Their copper lines are rusted as they're something like 30-40 years old and there is much attenuation in the line. This I learnt from my telephone operator. Everyone here is pissed off by the pathetic speed of bsnl. They do not have office(optical fibre cable) and hence the connection sucks bad!
My advice to you in case you're staying in noida is not to go for bsnl. Airtel would be the lesser of the 2 devils. Otherwise, take a USB modem or something.
