I got fed up with Hutch prepaid. They are deducting Rs 3 every day for services I do not use. Also after calculating costs I found BSNL excel to be very very cheap compared to hutch or Airtel by at least 30% overall. So I finally decided enough is enough.
One fine Saturday I went to BSNL office near the Income tax office in Bangalore on cubbon road (near the plane statue, the right wing of the plane points to the BSNL office which is next to GPO). I carried Rs 3526, a photograph, Pan xerox and driver license with address proof. By 9:00 AM I was at the office and there were 50 souls in line already. They issue only 250 Sim cards in a day. The staff issue application forms when you stand in the line. Bring in your own gum stick to paste the photo or else you have to beg from fellow souls. By 10 AM there were more than 150 souls in line waiting for BSNL office to open. After the office opened it took hardly five minutes to issue per customer. So what if I have wasted 3 hrs in line
Now,
I have a cell which has true roaming in India (even in some forests). They bill only for usage and not for some plan that you do not use. Their GPRS has no monthly rental.
My bill has come down and my usage has gone up. I do not get marketing SMS or calls. The signal is good and there is no bad quality of voice services.
Everything on this phone is cheaper and the quality is as good if not bad than Hutch or Airtel in Bangalore.
If you have BSNL landline it is cheaper to call a BSNL Excel/cellone (Local) than it is to call any other mobile connection.
Stats when compared to Hutch taking into account only per minute charges and not considering fixed daily and service charges:
10% cheaper for Mobile to mobile local calls
35% cheaper for Moble to landline local calls.
33% cheaper for Mobile to mobile STD calls
16% cheaper for Mobile to landline STD calls.
40% cheaper for roaming calls
50% cheaper for ISD calls to US & UK.
