I went there with my hubby n 4 yr old son. We took the Kanakpura-Malavalli-Kollegal-BR Hills -K Gudi route. It was flat 197 kms from Sarjapura Road, Bangalore. Entire route is very scenic and road is good. Only hitch were couple of odd humps in Kanakpura where our Honda City (owing to it's low ground clearance) bore the brunt. Entire road is two lane, so overtaking was difficult at some places. Since we left on a Monday, it was relatively better. We reached the resort in 4 hrs. We stayed in Jungle Lodges. Slightly expensive, but worth every penny u spend. It is 2750/- /person/night. This includes 2 safari rides/day. Evening safaris are very good, however morning safaris are nothing ore than a ride in the forest. They start pretty late (6.30 a.m) by which time most animals get deep inside the forest and animal sightings are not so good.
There's not a single decent eating joint in the entire stretch, so it would be good to pack enough grub.
Soon u enter BR Hills check post, u have to tip the guard there. we tipped 10/- since I had alraedy read abt this in someone's review here. It's illegal, but we were in no mood for an argument.
We did 4 safari's. spotted lot of birds, few elephants(compared to nagarhole, bandipur), gaurs, a leopard for very few seconds. leopard sightings are better than tiger at K Gudi. We stayed in a tent. During night, when the generators are switched off, it gets really adventerous. U can hear anilmal movements (mostly deers and wild boars) outside ur tent / loghut. It is not advisable to venture out even to the verandah after lights are off. If u do not have a partner who snores, you can enjoy the tiger alarm calls, and lot of other wild animal sounds. Hammocks outside the tents provide a very good relaxtion space, where one thoroughly enjoy the nature.
I would definitely plan another trip soon.
