BMW india launched the i8 hybrid supercar early in 2015 at an ex-showroom price of 2.29 crore and it is on sale through dealerships in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. Ecardlr delves into the design and performance of this new bimmer that comes as a direct import to the subcontinent.
The concept for this plug-in hybrid was unveiled at the 2009 frankfurt motor show and the Bmw i8 is now in its production stage. What made the car noticable was its eccentric styling that has been transformed from concept to reality without significant changes. The 1.5 litre, 3 cylinder BMW Twinpower turbo petrol engine drives the rear wheels. Apart from bizzare looks, the elements that lie under the skin make the sporty i8 special. The chassis is centred around a lightweight carbon-fibre reinforcement plastic ( CFRP) . The dramatic appearance does make i8 an unusual car on the roads. Yes, it is not beautiful in the conventional sense but it is certainly high on drama and elan. The i8 has the dihedral doors flip open smartly moving upward. The dashboard has a pleasing asymmetric design. All the controls are skewed towards the driver. The driver position in the i8 is very comfortable. The instrument panel also changes colours depending upon the chasis mode in which you drive the car. Sport mode brings out a conventional speedometre and tachometer. The i8 has a 8.8 inch screen to display efficiency and drive information. The view out towards the front and side is very fine. This cars generates 228 bhp and 32.6 kgm of torque. Along with this you get 129 bhp and 25.5 kgm of torque from the electric motor. And the car reaches from 0-100 in just 4.5 seconds. And in the sport mode the fuel will vanish pretty fast.
