The movie Azhar revolves around the life of the famous and flamboyant Mohammed Azharuddin, one of the former Indian Cricket Captains. During his career as the captain of the Indian Cricket team.
He got trapped into unnecessary limelight of getting involved in a match fixing outrage that cost him to let go of his career in the promising bright cricket world. Tony D’souza, the director of the movie, illustrates Azhar’s life in the most realistic way possible coupled with the tinge of fiction to bring out best biopic ever.
The movie starrs Emran Hashmi as Azhar, the graceful Prachi Desai as Azhar’s first wife Naureen, the beautiful Nargis Fakhri as Sangeeta Bijlani, the second wife of Azhar, the gorgeous Lara Dutta as Meera, a determined lawyer and Kunal Roy Kapoor as Reddy, the defense lawyer supporting the accused. The movie, all in all, had roles properly executed and delegated which made it all come together in perfection.
The plot revolves around the 99th Test Cricket Match against Pakistan, Azhar plays where is scores “Fours & Sixes” for which he is accused of match fixing which put an end to his career as he was dragged to the court for proving his innocence regarding the same. From the inception of his career in the Indian team, he earned success’ which made his senior fellow cricketers jealous when he was elected to be the captain of the Indian Cricket Team. Emraan emulated the veteran cricketer beautifully in terms of dialogues and actions beautifully.
Prior to the election of his candidature for captainship, the glitzy Azhar was married to Naureen who was later separated from him on his encounter and relationship with Sangeeta Bijlani, the then former Miss World. Both the ladies come to his rescue, to prove his innocence in the eyes of law which washed away the dark spot on his integrity for the country upon the request of Meera. Both Meera and Reddy worked tirelessly to prove the innocence of this glitzy accused, in which they were successful.
The movie has some light moments as Reddy reveals his comic side to the audience. With Tony D’Souza’s direction, Rajat Aurora’s story, Shobha & Ekta Kapoor’s production prowess, the sports drama has been beautifully depicted to showcase the fight of a cricketer who was surrounded by adversaries, yet made it to the clean chit of his integrity towards the nation at large.
