Ayurvedic treatment for arthritis and other joint problems


“Ayurveda” is defined as science of life or living. Its more way of living healthy and peaceful disease free life .For this peaceful healthy living it always emphasis on maintaining health with simple life style fluctuations which are needed according to the place we stay, the job we do and many more….Looking towards any disease, it always emphasis in removing the root cause of the disease .To be honest the root cause may be any thing right from changing dietary habits too postural changes. But they are always given importance in curing a disease.


Arthritis is a disease rather I would say a group of disease affecting joints of our body. The reason I say its group of disease as there are many sub branches of the same arthritis, but for a lay man just saying arthritis its worth. Joints are point of articulation between two or more bones, especially such a connection that allows motion. This point of articulation  is always well lubricated with the help of cartilages .Arthritis is a condition were this joint areas do get either inflamed or swollen or a lot of friction being generated creating pain over the joint with cracking pain, or stiffness .


Major signs and symptoms of this disease—


1] Swelling all over the joint may be one or may be shifting swelling over all joints of the body


2] Pain in the joint area


3] Stiffness more usually in the morning time


4] Cracking of the joint creating pain.


Treatments of over all joint diseases. -


For further easiness let’s divide the whole topic of joint diseases in two sections


1] Swollen joints with pain and stiffness


2] Cracking joint with no swelling but pain.[ degenerative]


Treatment for swollen joints—


According this age old science in this condition what’s most important is the following


1] Ginger root- Ginger is the best medicine in this condition, ginger is an herb known for reduction of inflammation for years ago. Either have this ginger in form of tea or just plain ginger powder and honey, every day before meals .Take care that you do not take too much.


2] Never massage the swollen area or joint. In this condition also wet steam is not good but dry hot fomentation would be damn good. For that reason apply some errand or castor oil, with some castor leaves on the infected area and then   just apply warm heated towel on it. Do this application on every joint for couple of minutes.


3] Fasting is also a way of treating such type of disorders. Try to fast or eat light for couple of days .It would be nice if one just has a light meal and moog soup for dinner .That serves to be excellent way of fasting.


4] When thirsty do prefer to have hot or warm water, as hot as you normally drink your tea or coffee instead of plain water or room temperature water.


5] Food habits do play a major role in such diseases, it always advisable to eat light meals .prefer not eating too much fermented foods, like yoghurt. Or left over, that may increase the swelling.


Joint condition when there is more cracking with pain when in moment.


In this condition normally joints do pain when we do moments, but with out any selling around .Osteoarthritis would be the word what people refer this condition as.


1] The primary problem is normally lessening of the cartilage of the joint spaces creating a lot of friction in between two or more joint spaces. Thus lubrication remains the basic need of the joint. Ayurved do tells to massage the joint for around 5min with sesame seed oil or any oil which is available. The massage should be with relaxed hand not to deep massage. If the oil is heated its more beneficial.


2] Another form of lubrication of in this cases are through eating some proper nourishing food, such has having sesame seed in diet in small amount. Ghee or saturated butter in small amount made at home would be also nice to have in meals.


3] Lady’s finger soup is on of dish which really helps in this condition also.


4] Exercising the joint in the way they do work is also important in this condition.


The above mention are just steps of healthy living, they should not be taken as prescribed suggestions on the disease. Valuable advice of expert Vaidyas should be recommended in all the cases of arthritis .
