Minimum balance can be tricky

I have my account with the Ooty branch of the Axis bank. Opened it ten years ago, when the bank opened its branch there. Initially they had Rs. 1000/- as minimum balance but later on they raised it to Rs. 2500 and Rs. 5000/-. Maintaining the minimum balance is always a challenge, especially for the salaried class. Nevertheless, I did my best to maintain the balance. But the problems have started cropping up recently. Recently I deposited over thirty thousand in my account and had also issued a cheque for the amount. But I suddenly realised that over 2200/- was debited from my account and another 270/- was charged as tax. As I am presently working in chennai I went to the local bank to enquire, after making me wait for almost an hour, they asked me to contact my ooty branch.

With heavy heart I called the ooty branch. They responded to my call, but asked me to call back later as they were busy. I tried again, and the receptionist took my number and promised to call back within minutes but did not as usual. Meanwhile after 24 hrs, I called again and this time she said, my minimum balance was short by few hundreds, and hence they charged all my transaction with an average amount of Rs.100. She also said that my money will not be credited under any circumstances. I also told my bank that I have a demat account with axis bank and also deposits so it would be unfair for them to penalize me, but she no answer for it. Even worse, my quarterly ends only by the end of this month, but Axis has already deducted the money before my quarterly ended.

Are there anybody who has faced similar problem and found a way out?. Can anybody advise me please..

I dont like to advise, but my suggestion to the readers is that be cautious with Axis bank, they have a crude and poor banking policy.
