I've been working with the Plastic cards for some time, and I'm writing this .
These are just tips to choose a Credit Card and to Avoid Credit card fraud.
1) If one is not too keen on Travelling abroad, Better choose a VISa/Mastercard than AMERICAn Express card . 80% of the merchants in India do not accept AMEX cards, since AMEX Card requires a different POS( Point of sale) terminal .
2) VISA / MASTERCARD: either of them is a good choice .
3) Try your best to see to it that, the Credit card, whenever used is used in front of your eyes .( Otherwise, the magnetic stripe on the Credit cards could easily be duplicated with devices and can be used by duplicating it over a different card)
4) The credit card theives in India are not as smart as in Europe and the US . With the advent of software you never know, when they could get smarter than their US/Europe conterparts .
5) Never disclose your PIN Number( Credit and Debit Card) to anyone . Not even the customer support people in the Bank . These PIN Numbers are made in a secure way, and they would in no way be disclosed even to the Chairman or any staff of the Bank . Disclosing the PIN to a customer support Executive is sufficient for a fraud to happen with your card( Debit / Credit card)
6) Whenever you insert a Debit/Credit card into an ATM Machine( ATM machine in a Non familiar place or any where abroad), see to it that the entire ATM machine does not have any additional piece of equipment fitted along. An ATM is a single unit, and all its devices are built internally . Take a close look at your ATM, when you go to one the next time .
7) As I said, Indian credit card theives are not as smart as the ones in the WEST . They still retort to other means .( Like, calling people and convincing them to handover the Credit card etc) .
I have lots to tell, but the subject is very technical and I guess most of you may not be able to understand the TEchnical Jargon that I might have to use along with it . Anyway, I hope this helps .
Cheers
