There is only one place in the suburban Mumbai where one could dance through the night till the wee hours of the morning. And that one place is Avalon. And that is precisely the one and only reason that makes this place so special.
Rest everything about Avalon is just about average or even below average at times. But then again who's complaining?
Avalon is located very close to the domestic airport. It is in the basement of Bawa International Hotel on the highway.
The entry fee is a cover charge and even though it is 300 rupees per couple it is fine. Because one drink inside costs about that much.
The ambiance is quite ordinary, although quite spacious. There are bar stools, there are tables for two, there are corners for two, and then there is the dance floor, which if not a saturday is the place to boogie.
On saturdays the place is jam-packed. But only after 1 or so. People who party at J 49 or On Toes usually wind up at Avalon and stay on there till the DJ rocks.
If you were to stay on from say 10 in the night to 5 in the morning, you would actually get to hear music from all existing parts of the world.
There are no rules about not playing Hindi or so-called punjabi numbers. In fact once the DJ gets in the spree one is treated to all Amitabh numbers at one go.
The crowd one gets to see at this place is a rare mix. But if you are with your friends then there is nothing to worry about. One hasn't seen or heard of any untoward incident take place in or around Avalon.
There are also pool tables for those pool freaks.
It is just one of its kind of a place.
