AT much Preferred

Looking at today's traffic situation, most people in the Middle East or US prefer using Automatic Transmission although in the UK, it’s the odd one out!

Automatic Transmission(AT) were less reliable, but the technology is currently establishing itself and today more and more people have started to consider it to be the best option though the fuel consumption is slightly higher than Manual Transmission cars(MT). AT takes much of the physical work and leaves you with both the hands on the steering wheel most of the time making the driver secured.

Considering myself that AT is the best option, I hereby suggest that techniques to be used while driving AT cars.

First thing that you would notice in an AT car is that it DOES NOT have a CLUTCH. Such cars have a'Torque Converter' that transmits the engine power to the gearbox and on to the driving wheels. Because of this simplicity, all that a driver has to do is, accelerate, steer carefully and apply brakes. If the driver is in a situation where he has to wait for long, then PRESSING THE BRAKES and moving the gear to NEUTRAL is important else there is a chance that the Engine might get HOT(Not likely; though to be on the safer side).

A car with an AT can be driven easily by a disabled. For a normal person with no disability, it still is advisable to use only the right leg so that the driver is unlikely to apply brakes and accelerate at the same time.

The difference between MT & AT is that in a MT car releasing the accelerator will slow the car down because of an effect called'Engine Braking' while in a AT car releasing the accelerator can cause the car to shift up a gear, so it is important to adjust your acceleration. When about to reduce speed or STOP, most people normally apply the brake & release and then apply it again & release and go on until the car slows down in AT vehicles.

Getting control of the car is not difficult and often drivers are comfortable within 2-3 drives.

As said before, when the driver needs to stop the car, it is wise for him to change the gear to'P'(e.g. for permanent parking) or'N'(e.g. during signals) and pulling the hand brakes. Especially in an AT car, applying the hand brake is very important because the car might kick off if there is an external interference from behind(a car hitting from the back).

AT cars are more comfortable for ladies and older people however it is also suggested for anyone & everyone due to its convenience.

Though AT cars are of different types, most cars are of the ‘Full Automatics' type. From my point of view, it’s advisable to prefer Automatic Transmission cars for road safety during long drives(of course! short drives too) that makes any trip a pleasure.
