I switch on the TV early in the morning yesterday to catch up with SUPERSERIES and see Dravid getting out for a beauty from Warney.
Do you decide to switch off the T.V or continue watching?
I did the second, simultaneously finishing my morning chores not because I expected the World XI to fight back, but expecting the Aussies to finish the game before I leave for office. What an irony. , ”A Country greater than this World in Cricket.”
The world is definitely not enough for this SUPERTEAM but it ends there DOWN UNDER. The Aussie juggernaut continues to bewilder one and everyone and watching them beat the WORLD XI in both forms of the game makes you think that this AUSSIE CRICKET TEAM is the most dominant in the history of the game, in fact more dominant than the Windies in 80s. If the Windies dominated by playing Cricket with instincts, the Aussies Cricket with intelligence.
What makes the AUSSIES the SUPERTEAM??!!
These are the answers that I could find & lessons that other teams could learn from them.
SUPER TALENT
There has never been in display such awesome talent in Cricket than these guys out there. The talent does not end with the Most gifted wicket Keeper Bat (Gilly) or the most gifted leg spinner (Warney) that I have ever watched, but begins with Punter Ponting , The big and awesome Hayden or the magnificent roller coaster bowler Mcgrath and does not end even in the bench (Watson, Hussey . . . . .) ,but deep down in Australian lands where they play cricket.
The Cause: The Australian Cricket system
SUPER MINDS
The World XI did not lack in talent either but what they lacked was to see within them the inner ability to outshine these Aussies. The Aussies believed in themselves and were not overawed by the huge batting line up of the opposition. They all ( Mcgrath, Lee, Warney and Mcgill . . . )made an inner picture of what they should do and put their minds into the game and not just their skills. The World XI showed negative frame of mind and played by instincts than by thoughts.
The Cause:The Thought process of Australian Cricket
SUPER FOCUS
The Focus is very much different from the mind though they require the similar thought process. The AUSSIES were much focused to reverse there debacle in England and their motivation level was so high that it resulted in their desire and dedication to win.
Few examples on their focus.
Hayden is dropped from One day team after his poor form this year. There is no cry in the media like our Ganguly but what Hayden does is come back and let his bat do the talking in the Test.
Stuart Mcgill after winning that match with superb bowling performance is asked by the interviewer
Are you happy with your contribution and what is your focus for the next six months?
Promptly comes the reply” My immediate focus is to win Pura Cup for New South Wales the next match that I am playing” This is what I call SUPERFOCUS.
The Cause: Discipline in their game.
SUPER TEAM WORK
Cricket is a Team game that we all know and we all understand, but we see in our Country and elsewhere Individuals playing for themselves and not for the Team. The Team game for once was exemplified by the English Team which fought and won like a Team. A typical example of this is if Mcgrath was given more overs in the SUPERSERIES TEST. He would have got ten wkts in the match and Warney could have been easily asked to sit back and watch. The number of times that Mcgrath has taken 5 wkts in an Innings reflects on how good this team is, but does not reflect on how great Mcgrath a fast bowler that he is. (He is one of the greatest of all time)
The Cause; The Captain, the Coach and their team integrity
SUPER BAGGYGREEN CAP
Last but not the least, they take pride in playing for their Country and our Cricketers pride in SUPERSTARDOM. The Baggy Green Cap is the most valuable thing for an Aussie Cricketer.
The Cause; They are not hyped by their Media and fans.
Let our Nations not only salute this great SUPERTEAM down under but also follow this leader to be more successful in Cricket.
