Aurangabad Caves is easily accessible from all parts of the city. You can hire an auto to reach there from your hotel. For us, we went to this place just after seeing Bibi ka Maqbara, and it took only 10 minutes to reach there.
You have to climb many stone stairs to reach on the top of the caves. These caves are not natural, they were dug out from basalt rock, and another example of historic artistic work after Ajanta Ellora. These caves are 12 in number as we kept counting divided in to 3 parts; Sculptures of Buddha were crafted there. Craftsmanship of these sculptures are just awesome and a matter of pride for art from of ancient India.
We visited this place in the afternoon time with setting sun and the place looked quite beautiful in the lap of nature. I was just amazed to see the birds eye view of the Aurangabad City from the top. There are lush green surrounding the caves add more value to the natural beauty of this place.
We were 6-7 young people and spent some time in these caves and clicked some good photographs! The place is silent and picturesque and ideal place for shutter bugs!
There were no tourist at that time. We had to pay a nominal entry free of Rs.5. Thing are maintained but not promoted properly, so I guess not many people are aware of this tourist place in Aurangabad!
The stairs were a bit slippery as it was end of July and we were all cautious while climbing up the stairs.
We spent almost one and half house and explored the place as much as we could. As there was no guide with us, we could not ask the history or back ground this place.
But, still Aurangabad Caves should be visited by the tourist for its scenic beauty, old Buddha shrine and its heritage value.
I recommend it.
