First of all.. I’ve stopped using napster. 8-(
Actually audiogalaxy is set to surpass napster as the leading source of mp3s for internet users. Although not as simple to use as napster, I’m using this program more than napster!
First of all, the program download is faster - only about 360 KB (napster is 1.9MB). The best part of audiogalaxy is that download is resume supported and you can queue up songs for download anytime. To start off register yourself and download the software (10 minutes flat). Then use the search option and search for the song you want. It gives you a list and then you download the song. Almost like napster except for a few vital differences. The search results are a little more complex and you cannot view their bitrate/time/size on the result page. You’ll have to click for more info.
Next is THE BEST PART. Unlike napster where you keep praying that your connection doesn’t go off, with audiogalaxy, you just queue up the songs and it does the rest!! It’w download is resume supported. That means that even if you get cut-off you can reconnect and start download from where you let off. I usually queue up a few songs and configure audiogalaxy to run at start.
So whenever someone at home connects, audiogalaxy quietly keeps downloading these songs in the background. I take care to adjust the bandwidth and the max no. of songs so that regular surfing speed is not affected. Download speeds with audiogalaxy is slightly more than napster and definitely steadier.
I’ve now got DSL, which makes download a jiffy!!
If you use this, one problem you’ll face is tha log files (which is in the directory you installed audiogalaxy) becomes huge in a few days! Manually delete it every week to ensure that your computer’s memory space stays intact
Since audiogalaxy is not yet as popular as napster, there is a possiblilty that you may not find the rare songs that you want. I haven’t yet given a shot at Indian songs as yet 8-(. If you want a great alternative to napster, audiogalaxy is for you!!!
