~A gift for impaired vision....and more.~
May 25, 2001 04:02 AM 53319 Views

I thought that it was fantastic when Readers Digest, the Holy Bible, and many other popular books went to large print. For those with continued loss of sight, all hope of'reading' a good book, is not finished. Books on audio are'worth a thousand words' and more.

My first interest to try audio books began, when my glasses needed replaced, and Frank Peretti was doing one of his books live on radio. After calling the eye doctor, I had a small wait for my lens repair, and decided to listen to Frank's book. I really enjoyed'listening' to'This Present Darkness' in audio form. I had a lot of thought about what a blessing audio books must be to many visioned impaired people. And, there are many other times that audio books would be very handy to use.

Imagine, if you will, a new babysitter is hired. And, your child is not quite warmed to her. Have the sitter play favorite'books' for the child and warm things up between them. Eventually the child will relate this entertaining time with the sitter. Also, when a child is ill and you must do that housework, 'audio books' can keep them satisfied. Audio books should NEVER replace a parent. But there is a time, when they will fit the bill.

Driving to work, or just any type of traveling, is a great time to play audio books. You don't need to miss a chapter. Another great place for playing audio books is camping. Anywhere you go, an audio book can go. Anything that is keeping you busy, can still allow listening to those books. Bed time is a great time, if insomnia keeps you awake.

Books are a part of our everyday life. And they are full of history and entertainment. They are full of advice and help. You can never replace a book. They are forever. But, if you lose your eyesight, you can still buy the newest addition of your favorite author, on audio.

Create your own'audio books' on tape for your children. They will be a wonderful keepsake for them. ENJOY.:-)
