UthHeaven Movie Review - Attagasam

Attagasam - Ultimate Star Ajith Kumar is back with Sharan! This hit combination has once again roped in another hit combo of music director Bharadwaj and Vairamuthu. The music of the much awaited Attagasam was just an average attempt from Bharadwaj but what about the movie? Can Sharan make it a hat trick of super hits with Ultimate Star? Can Ajith Kumar get back to being Ultimate again? Lots of questions and expectations on this Diwali release. Is it 'Attagasam Forever' or just in patches? Well, the answer is here!

Ajith Kumar plays a dual role in this movie. In one, he is a happy go lucky romantic guy named Jeeva who runs a driving school and in the other he is a dreaded, angry dada named Guru (Thala) who lives in Thoothukudi (Tuticorin). The twins get separated and many would have known about their flashback and the reason for their separation.

Thanks to their mother who is played by Sujatha. As Jeeva, Ajith plays the comical role while as 'Thala' the action one. Now no more story blogs, lets head straight to the twists. Due to a mishap, Jeeva lands up in Tuticorin for a short stay. Jeeva is mistaken as Guru and gets shocked to be called 'Thala' and for being respected by all. Due to the confusions that have been caused by Jeeva on his visit, Guru gets to know about him and his mother. He decides to seek revenge on his mother for abandoning him and taking Jeeva with her.

Guru plans to get his brother killed by his rival 'Annachi' Mahadevan with the help of Ramesh Khanna in Tuticorin by plotting a plan. 'Thala' kidnaps Jeeva and they exchange places. Jeeva is disguised as Guru. The original Guru leaves to Chennai as Jeeva. 'Thala' makes sure all hell breaks loose for Jeeva in Tuticorin but Jeeva smartly overcomes them.

Guru keeps troubling his mother in Chennai and makes her unhappy. After sometime he changes his mind when the truth about his mother's love and affection for him is revealed by her. Finally the twins join hands and demolish the villains. After the villains are taken care of, Guru returns back to Tuticorin while Jeeva walks away with Pooja! Well that's the story. An usual double role mix up story but Sharan's screenplay makes it livelier and enjoyable.

The movie starts off without any hiccups and the screenplay keeps flowing. Kudos to Sharan for that! The slap stick comedy and the presence of a good number of actors in one frame (Vyapuri, Crane Manohar, Karunas) is a typical Sharan style.

Comedy makes the screenplay more exciting! Karunas and Ramesh Khanna light up the screen but it is Ajith Kumar all the way who just carries the whole movie in his shoulder with another brilliant dual role performance, his third one after Vaalee and Villain. Oops! we almost forgot to mention about Pooja. She happens to fall in love with Jeeva - the cooler Ajith and she doesn't do much either other than the duets. Sharan has made sure he used Ajith Kumar as exciting as he can.

Rollicking comedy sequences especially Karunas with the auto rickshaw and the Temple comedy sequence in the second half deserve to be mentioned. The dream fight sequences take time to be understood but nice trick though.

Now to the action part - the villains. We have Babu Antony as Manthram the dreaded big dada who kills Nizhalgal Ravi (father of the twins) and we have one more villain in Tuticorin, Mahadevan as the Samudra Kani aka Annachi. He has a side kick played by Nellai Siva who makes us laugh with his accent. Of the two villains, Mahadevan impresses more.

Look out for him during the confrontation with the cooler Ajith in the second half! This is one of the best scenes and Ultimate Star steals the show! Fights have been picturised well and applause to the stunt master Super Subraiyan. Cameraman A.Venkatesh has done his job while Suresh Urs makes sure that movie is crisp with his editing skills. Mohana Mahendran takes care of the sets.

Well, as mentioned earlier Bharadwaj could have done more in all the songs but still ''Thalai Pola Varuma'' and ''Thala Deepavali'' rocks on the silver screen. The bit song jells with Ajith's image among his fans. Even the Attagasam bit song is used quiet well in the titles and some places in the movie.

The duets have been picturised in Romania and they look good eventhough the dance movements don't impress much, thanks to Ajith Kumar and Pooja. She looks quiet glamorous in the songs.

Now to Ajith Kumar's performance analysis! He has definitely stepped up a gear and now looks more solid in dual roles than other younger generation stars. He has done both the roles with ease. Sharan must be appreciated for extracting the best from Ajith Kumar once again after Kadhal Mannan and Amarkalam. He was the one who had promoted the 'Lover Boy' image of Ajith with Kadhal Mannan and also had given him the action hero image with Amarkalam.

Ultimate Star rocks in the comedy role! Sharan has made sure he has infused comedy into almost all scenes and special applause to him for that!

Ajith's one liners in the movie serve as a mega treat to his fans! Some of them include - 'Elunthiruchittaen, Etho Varaen', 'Nee Reel Otturavan, Naan Race Car Otturavan', 'Naan Leavulathan Poyirunthaen, Eppa Leave Mudinchu Vanthutaen - Jakkirathai', 'Ele! En Mughatha Vachikittu Kenchathaley'!! If you are an Ajith Fan, then this is the movie for you in the genre of Amarkalam, Dheena, Citizen and Villain!

So many plus points and isnt it time to analyse the cons? Mmm.. The music must have been done better eventhough the present songs entertain Ajith's fans. Some double meaning dialogues could have been avoided in the first half. Apart from those 'Attagasam' is a smooth ride right from the start to the end, thanks to Ajith Kumar and comedy!

APPLAUSE : Ajith + Ajith, Comedy, Fight Sequences

AHEM! : Songs and Double Meaning Dialogues

VERDICT : Diwali Saravedi from the Ultimate Star! A Mega Treat for Ajith Fans!
