Story:

OK not being very imaginative here...just been swindled out of a prospective Rs 500 by a cheap OMR answer-sheet reader. aggravating that situation I just read up on how our future MBAs have a profound and thorough understanding of AynRand and her soul fructifying philosophy...

one word ....PHOOEY!!!

(pardon moi french)

The pain ...the pain...

k enough of using Mouthshuts very own ''Writing A Review for Dummies''

AynRand...the woman is evil.

Alrite she's very tiresome...but thats just as bad in a world where ADD is the single largest killer of any hope for humanity.

Sadly unlike others who start of from the 500 odd page ''Fountainhead'' which is relatively easy to digest ... I embarked upon my road to Objectivism bypassing fountains and gardens and straight to Atlas getting bugged.

If my memory serves me right, it was an 1100 page 6 inch thick cuboid of-as she loves to say- ''incredulous'' trash.

The woman is so obviously off her rocker... the plot, the promiscuous non-woman of a heroine, the rapidly changing sexual partners(bandying to become brothers at a drop of a hat), the hidden perfect capitalist world, that overused overrated sadial line ...''Who is John Galt??'', a let down of a John Galt as well, his overarticulated 50 page speech...

how was the world fooled by this? its as bad as saying sidney sheldon writes well...well he does better than her.

Her language is thoroughly unimaginative, her vocabulary is limited (incredulous...incredulous...incredulous), her characters have no semblance of reality to them, her philosophy and fruition of it as expressed in the book is such a crock. Gross exagerration similar to what her pet hate communism did with its propaganda is to be seen at every length and breadth of the book.

Strangely enough the woman in all her books doesn't value family in the least, none of her characters seem to have one ounce of emotional attachment through blood. The total absense of the familial superstructure is out of sync with 5000 years of sociological history to say the least.

Apart from her depressing and bland philosophy...as ''passionately'' as she tries to express it, this book serves no other purpose other than insular propaganda without any exploration of perspective.

Before we scale this everest of a book, we get a 5 page lecture about this book being her own ideas and views and it thus cannot be judged yada yada... for such a straightshooter such as herself it smacks of her insulating herself from any criticism and mooting anything to that effect. Its a book, if you expect to make money off of it you'd better hope it gets judged.

Though reading her other books may not drive you into murderous rage like Atlas Shrugged did to me, but to put it simply...i don't think she's all that hot.

My only peeve is with people who swear by her and her books...those kind of people who will say things like ...oh he's such a compassionate writer ..whatever that means. the pretention... arghh...nvm.

I have been villified for my opinions and accused of not having justified my observations. I will agree that this is more a rant than a review...but I challenge anyone willing to disprove any of the premises upon which I lash out at that lady.

I'll be concise... you judge a book keeping in mind the parameters of the authenticity of idea and the artfulness with which its expressed.

For her ideas, I give her credit...she expounded it with vicious passion grossly similar to a right wing hindu nationalist. But what she could say in one simple line...so it could be left to be pondered over at leisure, she forces down your throat and naturally causes a literary regurgitation.

As far as her writing goes...her style...''Atlas Shrugged'' not that special a book in content itself is a below average book for reading pleasure. The fact that english wasn't her first language is rather apparent.

I admire the womans courage in her convictions...biased as they maybe, but I will not tolerate someone forcing me to believe she is an exceptional writer, because at that she's a miserable failure.

Strange isn't it... I feel like a Howard Roarke of sorts, fastened to my beliefs, secure in my outlook, impervious to the masses that would convince me otherwise.

Next time you read an AynRand book forget you're reading a supposed literary Behemoth and just judge it on its merits and then realise the irony of this review.

ps: for Mouthshut and its filters...why the hell can't I type out R A N D :p
