Far Too Angry

C?mon, you guys. Is it real ? Is it cool ? Is it (by any stretch of the imagination) at all there ? I don?t know about an industrialist ? as I?m not one. As a have-been-there fan of this author (this site doesn't allow me to upload her name in vain ! :) LOL ) and her writing, I agree that it is impactful, forceful, brimming with greatness etc. etc. But? it?s so angry.

How can anything be so .... someone has rightly used the word harsh. Though there seems a lot to be angry about in the world that they (or we) are living in. Do they ever crack a joke ? these industrialists ? Can you see Dagny Taggart giggling with a girlfriend?

By the way, the only part I skipped in this book was the fifty odd pages of Galt?s speech ? I can?t see how anyone has energy enough to make or read that long a speech. (I say this in spite of the fact that I love the characters ? Rearden, Taggart, Galt ? and the story- so this is a mixed review with mixed feelings).

My advice to anyone who reads this book is to take it with more than one pinch of salt. Life is never that simple, that black and white, that easy to define (except when you are a student). I recall a scene from a hindi serial (please forgive me for this blasphemy) where one of those motherly veterans is telling a rebellious young girl that life doesn?t work out by being sullen and stamping one?s feet and fighting with swords ? you make it work with laughter, wisecracks and a pinch of salt (with everything). (Although this doesn?t sound right coming from someone who hasn?t made a lot of compromises in life ?) it?s too angry and far too sentimental.
