I have followed Astitva for about 8 months now. Initially, I LOVED it. The plot was unique and the acting quality superb. I grew attached to all the characters, especially the perfect-in-every-way Dr. Simran. Now though, the show is just one depressing incident after another. The director claims his show is ''realistic'' - but is reality having one tragedy happen one after another?? Hardly. Let me be more specific.
First, Simran's husband cheats on her and lies about it. Lots of crying there. She then gets the heart to forgive him, and he comes back and says he still wants his mistress in his life. Simran goes into shock. More sadness. Fine, that's fair- things like this happen, right? Okay so after another 6 or 7 episodes of trying to get over her worthless man she decides to file for divorce. She merely gets over the divorce when her sister in law Anandi(whom she is good friends with) dies because she couldn't get hold of Dr. Simran who was busy in an interview. Simran is overridden with guilt and decides never to practice medicine again.
THEN Anandi's mother attempts to put Simran in jail by filing a case against her. Getting the idea? After every episode it's like--- wow. life sure does suck. And now, the latest incident in the story is that Simran's sister is in her final stage of cancer. I wonder what'll happen next. If I try following the trend- maybe Urmila will commit suicide or Manas will die in a car crash. My point? If you're in a good mood and want to bring yourself down a bit- watch Astitva on Zee Tv.
