For next fortnight, I had no plans to surf net because today evening I am going out of town. But last night I had read a review on Asoka, where in half true ( not half true but quarter true) history had been said, ''Asoka was a cruel king who later took an oath not to fight'', this is what has been stated in the review further it was stated that why someone has to kill a person, I don't understand; 30 writers ( some of whom I considered to be great thinkers) had rated it 'Highly Recomended & Recomended', is this what everyone thinks about our great history? It really made me feel very sad. This is what has forced me to write a review ( which I would have never done ) on movie Asoka. Half truth is very disastrous, recall the famous dialogue of Mahabharat; ''Ashwasthamaa Hanaayo, Narovaa Kunjarvaa'' told by Yudhisthir to Dhronacharya. ''ASHOK - the great'', agreed was a cruel king but that's only a single shade of his personality and on the basis of that if he is to be adjudged culprit then I would state that all the rulers of both the millennium should be adjudged culprit, why only ASHOK - the great. It was the power game which forced him to kill a person and that was the trend prevailing all over the world at that point of time. He was the only ruler in world and in next millennium it was Akbar who understood that war can only give devastation and started preaching their thoughts on non-violence and humanity, simultaneously managing a kingdom spread from Burma to Afghanistan - from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and that too very efficiently. Later he was fascinated by Buddhism and its only because of his efforts Buddhism is spread all over the world. Richard Gere, Julia Roberts, Steven Segal, etc. all those Hollywood actors and actresses who are fascinated by Buddhism, the efforts of ASHOK - the great can be found in the foundation pillars of Buddhism's popularity. He was the only ruler in the world who said that war has nothing to give and by just saying he didn't sat down, he implemented his thoughts ( visit Bihar and you would be able to know the real truth). This is what makes ''ASHOK - the great'' a great ruler above all the other rulers. ABOUT THE MOVIE I wouldn't discuss much about the movie as others have already said more than enough about acting, direction, music, etc. and so I would only state what my heart felt. Fully biased movie, created to gain cheap publicity where-in negative shades are at its fullest. Its a kind of nightmare for me. Even in my dreams I can't think of ''ASHOK - the great'' running around trees and singing song for wooing a girl. Till yet, I haven't heard or read of he being a flirtatious. After watching this movie, the person who doesn't know anything about Indian history would surely make an opinion exactly the same our writer did. I would be the last person on this planet to recommend this movie. MY ADVICE The management of Dreamz Unlimited should watch a Hollywood movie 'Gladiator' (though its not a bench mark, but its almost near perfection ) and learn how to make a movie based on history (even if a person who doesn't know anything about history, after watching this movie, his/her first comments would be ''GREAT'' ) or watch K. Asif's Mughal -e- Azam ( though I didn't like this movie but on history front they did good job ). Recently one of the movie on Bhagat Singh criticised Gandhiji, my advice to that director is that try to rule the mind of only ten peoples (Gandhiji ruled 350 million minds), I would give you an award. Ok! Ok! Let me stop because its seems that I am carried away. In short life of 24 years, life has taught me that if you aren't ready to feel proud for your past, stop expecting respect for your present because no one's interested to give you respect and so no question arises for future. I am keenly interested in having comments on this review, each and every member do give your comments, even if you Not Recommend this review I wouldn't mind but do make it a point to comment. I hope that everyone of you would satisfy me by giving your special comments.
