I USUALLY WRITE MY REVIEWS IN THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY FORMAT
BUT THT HAS TO TAKE A BREAK HERE COS THIS ONE HAS ONLY ONE PART
THE UGLYYYYYYY
And it is really ugly. I took asianet night bird connection last january. The connection was set up within a week with the total expenses running upto Rs. 5800. Night bird connections are supposed to be activated at 10:00 pm.
Day 1
I was all excited and was waitin in front of the computer from 9 o clock. Came ten o clock and nothing happened, no connection.
1030 no connection : rang up customer service. they did somethin and normal service was obtained at 12 o clock by tht time I was in no mood to browse
Day 2
Normal service (little did I know tht this would be the one and only day of normal service from asianet for me)
Day 3
10 o clock : switched the power on, switched on the UPS,pressed the power button on cpu NO RESPONSE did that again NO REPONSE rang up my computer service guys next mornin and they found tht the motherboard had gone bust. They said it would take a month to get the replacement motherboard. I had some presentations to be done at college so I needed the computer so we asked them for a substitute motherboard for the time being. And we got that the next week.
Day 4
I tried to login. Couldnt get anythin. Not even their homepage which is supposed to be available 24 hrs a day, called up customer service. They mumbled some techinical gibberish and said there is a virus and the computer needs to be formatted.
Day 5
D-day it was a sunday mornin. The computer was switched off the ups was switched off and so was the power. Suddenly I smelt somethin burning. I thought: it couldnt be somethin related to the computer. Checked the tv fridge and every other electronic appliance in my place. All clear. Then I took that step into my computer room. Smoke all over the place.the modem was burning. Dont read me wrong here IT WAS BURNING!!! I PULLED THE PLUG FROM THE POINT. AND THE CONNECTION FROM THE MODEM TO MY COMPUTER WAS ALSO REMOVED. THAT POINT WAS ALSO BURNT. Then I tried to switch on the computer and it wouldnt work. I knew it. The 2nd motherboard also went up in smoke. Rang up customer service.
They came prepared with a multimeter and said it was the fault of the wiring at my place. They also managed to show some reading of 57 volts when the switch was off ( This we found out later was a blatant attept of cheating us because our electrician and our computer service guys got zero reading on their multimeters). The only 2 places which were burnt were the modem and the connecting point of the modem and cpu.
Their allegation that it is the fault of the wiring can be easily countered. I got my replacement motherboard next month and reverted back to good old bsnl. Since then I have used 250+ hrs of internet without any problems.
We have since then filed a case in the consumer court asking them for compensatiion. But they dont turn up for the hearings and now some one calls it.
