I am here to share an experience with Ashok Hospital, Belgaum in general and with Dr. Desai (Gynec) in particular. This hospital is located in the heart of the city - Belgaum (Head qrts for VTU-Karnataka).

Ashok Hospital, located in Belgaum is popularly known for treating patients with in-fertility cases. Doctor B.R.Desai, runs this hospital and is known for his success ratio, experience & pleasing attitude with his patients. He is also the head of department in Obst & Gyn at J.N.Medical college and also consults patients in the ARC section at the KLE hospital-Belgaum.

About our background:

My wife and me are residents of Bangalore and both work for an IT major here. Married since past 5years and wanting a baby since 4years. We visited various famous hospitals in Bangalore for consultation and for seeking treatment for our case. My wife and me underwent various tests in Bangalore. We underwent this process of visiting hospitals, doctors, consultation and treatment for about 4years, but my wife failed to conceive and we both started getting into the depression mode of in-fertility by each passing day. Unable to know what, where & whom to contact for a solution. Don't want to say, but our experience with doctors (Gynecologist) in bangalore was more like spending money, time, energy (long Q's) and missing personal attention during consultation hours. I do not want to mention the names of the hospitals visited in bangalore on this forum/review. This is a general piece of information am sharing which might help a few folks who are looking out/waiting for a solution to come out of the in-fertility mode.

Visiting Ashok Hospital:

The hospital was referred to us by my sister who had lately been hearing about the doctor's magical hand, experience and also care towards his patients. We started thinking about visiting the hospital/doctor for consultation, because they say in hindi 'ek dubte hue ko tinke ka sahara hi kaffi hai'. But, the constraint we had was travel for consultation (12hour journey by train from bangalore)- with regards to travel, I will share the details towards the end of this post. We discussed at length on the travel issue and decided to visit this doctor and give him some time to diagnose and treat us. Thus, called the hospital for appointment( this is mandatory). The receptionist speaks kannada, Marathi and Hindi. FYI - Doctor does not consult on Saturday and Sunday but since we traveled a distance for his visit, he would occasionally entertain us during weekends also and would cooperate over phone too.We used to apply a leave on our Friday or Monday and travel to Belgaum.

Consultation with the doctor:

With multiple consultations we had in Bangalore, one of the problems which was very clear to us, was my wife having PCOD condition. With this condition we were told that IVF was the next step to go for. But we didnt want to go for it so early, hence we took to Ashok Hospital with all our reports and complete faith in him. Upon our visit, Dr Desai suggested us to go for few rounds of IUI, if it clicked nothing like that otherwise further treatment can be taken up. As suggested by him, we used to go for Follicular study every month on the dates told by him, read him the report over the phone after which he would

suggest us to travel down to Belgaum for IUI. We used to get the IUI done (stay on that day) and travel back to Blr and wait for the month end. We got such four rounds of IUI done at Ashok Hospital, but it did not work out. On our next visit, Doctor educated & suggested us to go for Hysterolap and to wait for another few months for natural conception. We got that done too and bingo in the second month of the treatment my wife conceived normal :) After she concieved, Dr.Desai adviced us NOT to travel and we thereby moved on to Dr.Saraswati Ramesh (A.V.Hospital, Southend circle-Jayanagar) until delivery.

Long story short *- The 4years of wait, depression and struggle to find the right treatment/doctor concluded. This is an experience - am sharing with you folks and thereby not trying to pin point any individual/hospital in Bangalore OR pointing out this was the only

way out. Folks have been successful getting treated in Bangalore, just that it didn't work for us.
