Yet another movie worth watching… Certainly good news for tamil folks who are enjoying summer vacation. Arindhum Ariyamalum is director Vishnuvardan’s second movie after “Kurumbu”, which was targeted at the youth but failed to make an impact. This movie, however, is just the opposite. It has a fresh storyline. Let me tell the exact story. It is the story of a don (if he can be called that) who finds his son and starts loving him.

Adhinarayanan (Prakashraj) is a don who has an adopted son Kutti (Arya) who is also into his father’s business. Sathya (Navdeep) is a young student coming from the village to pursue engineering and has a crush on Sandhya (Samiksha). He ends up becoming the only witness to Kutti’s shooting of Sandhya. He complains to the police and Kutti is thrown into jail. It is then that Adhinarayanan finds out that Sathya is actually his son and starts loving him forgetting that he was the one who complained to the police. Kutti also loves Sathya. Kutti wants to make Sathya happy and so he goes to Sandhya’s house and talks to her father, and this, results in a conflict between the pair. The villains (Adhinarayanan’s enemies in business) try to kill the father and son and the police come in and the car, in which Kutti and Adhinarayanan go, gets burnt completely and the newspapers show that they are dead. But, as in any typical tamil movie, they actually aren’t dead and they all live happily ever after.

Prakashraj, as the don Adhinarayanan, has done a wonderful job. He is very natural and spontaneous. The scene in which he shows Sathya the things he had bought for him even before he was born is moving. Also the way he admires Sathya when he sleeps and a couple of other scenes have been well done by the crew.

Arya, as Kutti, has also done his part remarkably well. He dances and fights well. The scene where his eyes are filled with tears when he sees how happy his father is on finding his actual son is just superb. Also the way he sits suits his character in the movie. The scene in which he talks to Sandhya’s father calling him “Subramani” and finally saying he had been very respectful is hilarious.

Navdeep, as the young Sathya, who comes to the city to study engineering seems to do everything but that. He is good for a debutant, but could have done better in some scenes. Nevertheless, he dances well.

Samiksha, as the city-girl Sandhya, looks cute, but has to understand that acting is more important than mere looks although she has done her lip-sync well (better than most heroines).

Special mention has to be made of “Five Star” Krishna who plays Sathya’s friend Krishna. His comedy in the movie is great and there is no vulgarity in it and that itself brings a great relief. The scene where he is taken to Adhinarayanan’s house by his men is a highlight. Watch out for it. He is very spontaneous too. In him, we have a new comedian who actually makes people laugh!!!

The storyline is simple, but the screenplay and dialogues are crisp and that prevents the story from dragging. The editing by Sreekar Prasad is also very good and helps maintain the pace of the movie. Music by Yuvan is not up to the expectations. Thee pidikka and Konjam Konjam are numbers that keep people humming them. Art director Remiyan doesn’t have much work to do in the movie. Cinematography by Nirav Shah is very good and ensures strain-free viewing of the movie.

The movie is very good and would have been better if the climax hadn’t come out the kollywood way. After all, how can two people, already shot, escape from a burning car and still remain without any burns? This is actually the most hilarious scene of the movie!!!
