I have been Sidney Sheldons ardent fan since I don't remember when. I love thrillers and I considered Sheldon to be king in that field.I have read all of his books and I have been satisfied each time.
So it's no surprise that when '' Are you afraid of the dark?''was released, I was one of the first ones to get it.
I sat down with the book on my cozy sofa and finished it in one sitting. As with all Sheldon books,it was fast-paced, filled with intrigue, kept you on your toes but something was missing.
The plot seems as if it has been compiled from his previous works. As you go on reading , you experience deja vu , as if u have read it all somewhere else but just can't put your finger on it.
''Are you afraid of the dark?''can never be compared to his other masterpieces like ''Master of the game'' or ''Rage of angels''. The plot is very predictable to the point of being childish.
''Are you afraid of the dark?'' is a story revolving two widows,Diane Stevens and Kelly Harris, whose husbands have died under mysterious circumstances. Now , it seems as if the same forces which killed their husbands are out to make sure they never find out the truth.
The entire plot consists of hits and misses, running around from here and there , of how these two women use thier wits to overcome thier adversary. Seriously, it seemed more like lady luck was giving them a hand rather than their own minds.
Sidney Sheldon tried to cover up the lack of a mind-blogging plot by putting the characters in tight situations, nearly getting blown up by bombs, lucky escapades from blood-thirsty assasins and much more which we can easily find in our Nancy Drews.
A complete disappointment from the master of thrillers.
