This movie stunned everbody and showed the hard and gritty and gruesome reality of police brutality and corruption and violence in India in 1981, though the movie was made 2 years later in 1983.

This movie was a steping stone for sadashiv amprapurkar. Till that movie he was not even known to be an actor in bollywood, he only had done couple of stage work. Not only did this movie lauched him but it also showed how Om Puri could act given any circumstances. He potrayed a life of cop who was going through a difficult career in Mumbai Police as a sub inspector. He did this role in a way that it could be compared to AL Pacino's In Serpico accept the situations were different in both movies. Pacino had to deal with the inner corruption of collecting bripes by cops in NY cop system where as Puri had to deal with the whole society being gone corrupt. It showed the reality of things being done in India in the 80s. Corruption was the main theme of the movie aswell as Puri's Character who was searching for a truth.

Govind Nihlani had done Aakrosh in 1981 before this movie. And Ardh Satya was his next project after that in two years. He had became so accurate within two years and came out with movie like ardh satya.

The thing that I like about this movie was hard reality. It showed everything up front. There were no fake stories or melodrama that take place in today's hindi cinema movies. It was like slap on the face reality. Whether you like it or not.

Most actors todays wouldn't even come close to what Om Puri did in Ardh Satya, many directors tried to make movies on cop characters such as kurukshetra, farz and blah blah blah..... But Ardh Satya remains the only movie and one of its kind.

IF you have a chance of getting hold of this movie do get it. And watch it.
