Archie Comics Rule!!!. Review on Archie

My entire family is crazy about these comics. We've all been reading Archie's comics for ages. My brother especially is a total freak - he spends all his allowance buying them from second-hand bookstores where he gets really old copies at pretty cheap prices.

Archie is obviously the main character in the comics here. This guy is always after the girls, mainly Veronica Lodge and Betty Cooper. There are times when I don't like him because he can be such a jerk towards Betty. I do admire his utter devotion towards his car though.

Jughead, whose real name is Forsythe Jones is Archie's best friend, is a total food freak and is constantly trying to lend money from his friends to pay for food. He seems to hate girls, but has at times confessed to liking them, just a little less than food.

He is also usually the peacemaker in tight situations. I sometimes wish he and Betty would get together because they are so great together!

Veronica Lodge is always after Archie because of his good looks, but frequently ditches him for Reggie Mantle because Archie has only ''average looks, average knowledge, and below-average income''. Veronica also happens to be daughter of one of the richest men in Riverdale, Mr. Hiram Lodge.

Betty Cooper is Veronica's best friend, and is completely head-over-heels in love with Archie. The two girls are often seen fighting over Archie. I like Betty as she is usually more compassionate and caring and unselfish, but at times she can get pretty annoying in her quest to win Archie's heart.

Besides these characters, there's also egoistic Reggie Mantle who enjoys playing pranks and gags on anyone possible (although there were a couple of times where he was portrayed as a very compassionate person); Moose, best in the wrestling team but blur in everything else; Midge, Moose's girlfriend whom Reggie is always trying to hit on; Ethel who likes Jughead; Chuck, the more artistic of the group of friends; Nancy, Chuck's girlfriend; Dilton Doiley, the brainiac of the group; Mr. Weatherbee, Riverdale High's principal; the gang's parents, their teachers and coaches, Ms. Grundy, Mr. Flutesnoot, Coach Clayton(Chuck's dad), Coach Kleats, Cheryl Blossom who's interested in Archie and therefore Veronica's and Betty's ultimate rival, etc.

Besides the main stories of Archie and his friends, the comic book also feature various other comics like Katy Keene, Josie and the Pussycats, Sabrina (this is where the famous teenage witch got her first break), and others.

I have to say that I actually find the comic books educational as well as entertaining. I gather all sorts of facts from the comics that I didn't know before. One I remember particularly is how to tell directions without a compass or using the stars and sun as navigation. That was one of the facts I learned when Archie and Jughead got lost with Dilton (I think) All that general knowledge helps me show off quite a bit in class actually...! ;D

One more thing I like about the Archie comic books are, believe it or not, their potential to strengthen bonds between the rest of my family. A lot of my dad's brothers are very distant from us and when we visit there's nothing to talk. I discovered that as soon as they spot me reading these comic books they start talking to me non-stop! They used to read them when they were kids so it helps bridge the generation gap! Heh...Well that's a bit too much...
