Archies... Is it Worth The Hype ?. Review on Archie

I am Rahul

Like every growing kid I too was addicted to Archies Comics in my early childhood. I spent all my pocket money in renting Archies from a library in my locality.But as I started growing I was exposed to better reading material like Hardy Boys, Enid Blyton and the more recent Harry Potter.

My favourite character was undoubtedly Jughead Jones.

But think about it friends is Archies all that good ?

I mean think about all the time you spent in reading Archies but did you learn even one bit from it.

I know you must be thinking that everything is not about learning and that Archies was just for entertainment.

But think about it....

I recently came across comics called AMAR CHITRA KATHA. believe me, they were great ! There were stories about all the mythological characters and it was not one bit boring.

In these books I learnt things about Indian Mythology I never knew.

Think about it ...... What is Archies all about.... A dude who can't decide on which girl friend to choose ( ARCHIE ). A rich girl who thinks money can buy everything (VERONICA ). A girl who runs behind a guy all the time doing all she can to impress him ( BETTY ). A guy who eats all the time ( JUGHEAD ) and another rich dude who thinks he is the greatest guy in the world ( REGGIE ).

I have no regrets that I read Archies but now that I look back I start thinking about all the moments I wasted in reading Archies which I could have used in learning things which are much more important.

I am not asking people to burn Archie Comics or boycott them and read educational stuff all the time but I want the next generation to understand what opportunities lie in store for them when they start reading good books at an early age.

I suggest all parents to kindly read the poem

Archies is a comic which has nothing to offer us except the entangled lives of a few teenagers who have nothing to teach their readers.

Move on guys, Come ON... Read better books.

Believe me the best way to start is by picking up a copy of HARRY POTTER . You will realize what good children books are all about.

Comics aren't the only reading material for kids. There is much much more ...
