Do not buy this on line.
And check all features before buying from a dealer. Many dealers remove some of the filters and sell only the base RO unit.
Check that all the following filters are present: 1-Pre-filter(removes dust and large particles). 2 - Sediment filter(removes suspended particles). 3 - Activated Carbon filter(Removes chlorine). 4 - RO membrane filter(Removes impurities), 5 - Post silver carbon filter. 6 to 9 - 4 stage mineral cartridge(to replace minerals removed by RO. 10 - UV Filter(inactivates bacteria). There should also be a TDS controller - This is a manual adjustment device, NOT AUTOMATIC. Price of this full unit is Rs 8500(I got two quotes and took the one which gave me 2 year warranty). Beware - Some dealers give only 1 to 5 and charge extra for the mineral cartridge, UV, and TDS controller.
The device is automatic and a wall unit that draws water from a tap. An adapter has to be fitted to the tap. This is done by the technician who comes for installation. Installation is free(both my quotes). Some dealers I contacted quoted 600 to 1000 for installation. Don't fall for this.
Make sure you get a 1 year warranty and at least 4 prefilters(worth Rs 1000) free. My dealer gave me a two year warranty and 5 pre-filters.
The device draws power from the mains and requires a 5 amp plug. Once installed properly you can forget it. It turns on automatically when the water level drops and switches off when the 10 litre tank is full. HOWEVER installation is tricky and has to be done by a trained technician. My unit ran into problems after the installation. There was very high motor noise, the waste water kept continually flowing after the unit switched off, and the water in the tank began to smell of chlorine. It turned out that the length of tubes in the unit and to be adjusted, and the solenoid tap had somehow turned on and had to be adjusted. This was done within 24 hours. So it is important the there is good service backup. DO NOT BUY ON THE INTERNET. Make sure you get it from a dealer near your residence.
The prefilters have to be changed once in 2 to 4 months depending on the TDS of input water and your water usage. Once in 2 months if TDS is more than 400 and you draw 100 litres water a day. Mineral cartridge lasts for 12000 litres(5 years). RO membrane lasts for 10000 litres(4 to 5 years).
Be advised that this unit wastes 50% of the water through an outlet tube. So 10 litres water in tank means 10 litres wasted. Waste water can be used for cleaning purpose if your water source is Metro water. But if source is Bore water and TDS of input water is very high then waste water will contain very high minerals and cannot be used for washing.
Water tank is screwed on but can be easily removed for washing.
