I am highly dissapointed at the lack of innovation that went into designing the new 4th gen pod nano. the 3rd gen was rejected by the uber fashion concious as a fat pod . so what does steve do? go back to the previous slim design and give it a bigger screen the same on the 3rd gen I pod only placed vertically, the same shake technology seen a year back on sony walkman phones.the sound quality remains the same. I diddnt notice any vast sound difference in the the upgrade. I still find the shuffle with the best sound qulity in the pods.

the coverflow seen on the 3rd gen still can be seen on the new pod except it gets activated when you tilt the pod to its side. the tilt motion can also change the way you see the photograph in a landscape mode quiet common on a lot of cell phones.

the genius feature is nothing but a bpm meter calculator which calculates the tempo of the songs and matches with all the other in the playlist .those selcted are made a new playlist of on the touch of the centre button.

the games are also motion sensitive.and the maze is fun to play by tilting the pod and directing the way you want it to roll.

but seriously how many of us play games on the pod.Its a mp3 player and should concentrate in transforming sound into entertainment.the earphones provide by the apple is nothing but a big slap on the face of an amazing sound producing gizmo.

the perenial problem with all the pods getting their shiny hind getting sctratched at the slightest brush against objects it seems to be addressed in the 4th gen which gets a painted back scratch resistant paint. but I some how miss the shiny back it was a more of a signature pod look and I will miss it.

the built quality is good as it always was but the darn thing is slim . its so delicate and the colors damn it makes, it look girly . the third gen was a bit more masculine design. I simply doubt that it might survive a fall. I think it might break in yout jeans pocket if it is too tight and you make an attempt to stretch a bit.

and if you ask me will it be wise to sell of your 3 rd gen to upgrade to the 4th gen then I would say it doesnt have any wow factor that will make me shell out money for the new one. one place that the new ipod will make a killing is the price at which it is offered and the 16gb space is just great espically if you have music videos onthe pod .

to sum it up. the 4th gen has very big shoes to fill in. personally I love the 3rd gen pod. it produces great sound has a strong battery life better that the 4th gen which is just fot upto 4 hrs of video . the 3rd has got an hour more. the 4th gen pod can easily passed as a cell phone if it hadent been for the scroll wheel.lacks the wow factor. and as seen when introduced the stocks fell by 4% that says it all.

the new things you get with the 4th gen ipod nno are:

Curved sides and new colors; revised interface; voice recording features; "shake to shuffle"; accelerometer.
